TIMMY! Livin' a Lie?! (The Timmy Burch Video)

Timmy Burch wasn’t introduced until season 4 of South Park, but he INSTANTLY made a huge splash, and is easily one of the fandoms favorite characters in the show. I think it would be easy to expect South Park to make the handicapped kid a punchline, but on the contrary, Timmy is an incredibly well rounded and well respected character. By both fans AND the other characters in the show. And though he maybe doesn’t get as much focus as he did previously, he remains easily one of the most popular. So today, let’s explore the ins and outs of South Park’s Timmy Burch.

I really love the way that Timmy was utilised in The Fractured But Whole game as a Professor X character especially how he talks with telepathy. My interpretation of this choice is that he has such powerful psychic powers that he can’t talk like other people and so he has to communicate through telepathy

My brother was like Timmy. He was disabled, he could barely speak, and he did need assistant for a lot of things we take for granted. But he was also loving, smart, and always happy. I think it’s really honorable the way South Park uses Timmy, and I wish more media would acknowledge the overlooked community that Timmy represents.

Timmy is one of those characters that's so nice you question how the fuck he was born in south park. Him learning to say the band name because he doesn't want anyone to feel excluded, and the episode where he gets attached to the disabled turkey are so sweet. Seeing a character being genuinely tender just because they want to is rare in that town.

Timmy is definitely one of my favorite characters from the series and it makes me a little sad that he’s fallen into the background over the years. It’s kind of crazy how frequently used Timmy was throughout seasons 4-10 considering that he went for several seasons afterwards without saying a word. His prominence in The Fractured But Whole and Handicar at least gave us some great moments, but more Timmy is only a great thing. Hope to see him make another return soon!

In the Willzyax episode, I still love Timmy’s whispered _”Timmeh”_ while they’re sneaking past the security guard 😂

My mom is a teacher for kids with disabilities, she has a 25+ year career

One of the things that I've learned from her is that the best way to make people with disabilities feel included and free, is to let them participate and make choices 😂

Is that simple, and the writers of South Park nailed it, they don't celebrate Timmy doing normal stuff, they don't patronize him either, and let him just be a regular kid

The "Timmy 2000" episode reminded me of anecdote from my mom about a kid with down syndrome who was obsessed with motorcycles

At that time all his family and the teachers were worried he was going to hurt himself if they let him near one, but one day he managed to get to the bike of one oh the teachers

Not only he didn't do anything crazy, he just explored it and made questions, but also he was visibly happier after that

That was almost 10 years ago, and iirc, he is now a mechanic

My mom hates South Park, but she'd agree that Timmy has been treated well

Timmy using Kenny's Jacket as he tries to murder Jimmy has such interesting implications considering almost everyone else is incapable of remembering Kenny dying.

15:45 I’ve never noticed it before, but Timmy’s teddy bear having a wheelchair as well is actually really stinkin cute

The time travel joke was top tier. it is both a joke at timmy's expense on a meta level, as well as being the punchline of a time travel joke because he can't tell anyone of his adventures, so him being all over time is a secret kept to himself.

Wait wait wait, in the Mysterion episodes we learn that everyone forgets that Kenny dies, Timmy knew that Kenny was in danger every second of his life, Timmy knows that Kenny constantly dies. Something so small is actually so large!

Imo people don't appreciate Nathan enough. He is a rly good representation of how some people treat humans with disabilities, thinking they are inherently slow and can't think even if they a rly smart.
Great vid though, I love coming to ur channel for the chill vibes and thoughtful analysis.

As a person with a disability I love the way SP treats Jimmy and Timmy. Beyond being entertaining, it just gives me joy that Matt and Trey get it.

To think that they got so much material out of a kid who can only say his own name!

I love that he provided the fast travel for Stick of Truth.

Timmy and jimmy while handicap jokes they don’t get stale the writers somehow find ways to keep their characters fresh with each appearance

The scene when Timmy tries to tell Jimmy off to Mr Mackey and gets mad because he doesnt know what he's saying really hit me hard. Because there used to be a disabled kid at my school who was sort of similar to Timmy, that no one around could really understand him.

Ok, but the idea of someone who cant say anything but their own name being part of a metal group, screaming the only thing he can say over and over, just fucking belting it into the mic in a desperate refusal to be silenced?

*That's metal as fuck.*

I've always loved how timmy is like chewbaca. He has fully fleshed thoughts and ideas, it's just no one can understand him. But jimmy can ["don't lecture me on the complexities of sports, Timmy!"]. Jimmy is his han solo.

When I first saw Timmy’s design, I thought it was meant to be offensive and the creator believed handicapped people were idiotic, but when I watched all the episodes I saw that the creators weren’t being offensive actually being diverse. Timmy became one of my favorite characters in South Park.
