Expanded Stem Cells Vs Unexpanded Stem Cells: What Should You Choose?

Are more stem cells always better? This is the question I aim to answer in this week’s episode of The Dr. Joy Kong Podcast.

So many of you have asked me what I think about expanded stem cells and if they work better than native ones.

Many patients come to me with a common misconception: More stem cells = Better results. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

In fact, various studies have shown that culturing and expanding stem cells can lead to genetic alterations, reduced effectiveness, and even dangerous side effects.

Listen in as I break all of this down for you and discuss the big differences between expanded and unexpanded stem cells and why I think you should always go with the latter if you can.

Are you ready?

Let’s dive in.

Key Takeaways:

Introduction (00:00)
Expanded cells vs unexpanded cells (00:55)
How culturing reduces stem cells’ potential (02:56)
What happens when you expand MSCs (04:52)
Why expanded stem cells are inferior (08:05)
Why I use native cells (11:31)
More is not always better (13:41)

Dr. Kong what is your opinion of Dr. Adeel Khan's work on MUSE STEM CELLS?

I appreciate the detailed explanation. Listening to your presentation, I realized that the initial source and unexpanded purity are crucial for optimal results. Your passionate outline clarifies that you've explored various aspects of this essential health treatment.

I appreciate your dedication to making stem cell education accessible to everyone!
On a couple of the general stem cell discussion groups, reaction to sc treatment had been discussed. This included the very situation you mentioned where the first treatment went well but not the second treatment. One speculation for the potential cause was a reaction to the blood cells if the donor and recipient were not matches for blood types. This was stated given that a small amout of blood cells are allowed to be in MSC's. How likely do you think that would be? I was wondering if the cord blood used would present any issue given it is blood but not cultured and as you stated less likely to show surface markers.
Have you ever seen any similar reactions at your clinic with an inflammatory or immune response to a treatment and/or a reaction to the second or third treatment?
Thanks again for providing clarity to a topic that is so murky.

Yes...!! When stem cells are expanded/activated. Time becomes a very important factor to consider. Because they start gaining functions. Thatt the original syem cell parent....didn't have.

This Gain Of Function...is the part that cancer cells...into becoming deadly... Metastaic Cancer cells.

As cancer cellls under hypoxic conditions. Revert themselvres back to become Mesenchymal Stem Cells...and they then gain functioons.

Just beginning to learn about Stem Cell Therapy and appreciate the information. I'm open to any intervention that has a positive effect on health and/or longevity and see SCT has the most natural unnatural intervention, if that makes sense. I'll keep doing homework.

I just found your channel. I've been watching a few videos. Very informative. Thank you.
Question: it is my understanding that our stem cells go dormant as we get older. Do any of your treatments activate dormant stem cells?

Excellent information Dr Kong! I was wondering if you can talk about exosome therapy vs stem cell therapy, and what each is used for, if there is a preference for one over the other in certain circumstances.

Hi Dr. Do you know that the Mayo Clinic is using a microwave size device to extract the patient's own stem cells and the patient can receive an injection on the same day of their own stem cells? No risk of rejection. (But I'm not a doctor so my explanation is limited.) It was invented by a company located in Vancouver, Canada.

Great explanation Dr Kong. What type of stem cell treatment would you suggest for a budging or Herniated disk?

Very very informative video! Thank you Dr. Kong. Question - I live in Vegas, but want to come to your clinic in L.A. to get the same MSC treatments you do. What is the best way to contact your office?? By phone call ? Or Email ? Thanks.

Have you used native cells (unexpanded) to treat mitocondrial dysfunction? It seems like the MSC’s can repair the damage but the core issue of why the mito cells are dysfunctioning remains and continues. If expanded cells are lending their mitocondria to cells with dysfunctioning mito cells, wouldn't a higher number provide potentially more mito cells lent? Also, if the MSC’s are lending themselves out then would they still multiply? I've read some studies that stated once MSC’s enter the body they dont live more than 6 months roughly, is that what youve found? Thank you!

😊 You seem to know stem cells very well. Call them up and tell them that I need their help 😂.

So when you state around minute 7…..
Bone marrow cells and expanded MSCs are equal in results given the numbers difference…..
They are again equal
