$5 vs $500 Snowboard Jib Training

In this video I'm comparing two snowboard jib training setups on either end of the price scale. A converted old skate deck and the Snowboard Addiction jib training board and bar.

As long as you have an old skateboard deck you only need to buy duct tape and a 2L plastic bottle. It's easier if you can use an old pair of shoes, tape them firmly to the skate deck in your preferred position. Adding duct tape around the bottle held to increase resistance and stop it from sliding.

The Snowboard Addiction jib board is designed with the bar to recreate the feel of a snowboard and it definitely succeeds at that. All I can say is if you like to go in the park and you have the money consider buying this product. The board has a great flex, the bindings are comfortable and the addition of the white block on the rail offers some variety.

Snowboard Addiction is based out of Whistler and I have the met the guys and they are all great. I don't want this to be seem as my calling out their product, it is fantastic. Closer to the truth is that I, personally, don't have $500 to spend on a jib practice setup and I am not a huge fan of the park. I also live in Whistler and being a bigger mountain it's a great place for all mountain and technical riding which is what I really enjoy doing. But if you, dear reader, are going in the park regularly this will definitely make you a better rider

If you can't afford this, don't fret too much. There are ways that you can recreate a similar experience and even get a tasty beverage out of it.

As you may be able to tell I am not sponsored by Snowboard Addiction or Coca-Cola.

Yea nice comparison. I used a metal tube and a skate deck for balance training a few years ago. Maybe I will cover that too in my upcoming video which will be about a DIY box. Wanted to film it yesterday but the light conditions where too bad, it was raining and I even couldn't do any talk to the cam cuz my neighbors where loud af. So I decided to try it again later. I think I will reference this video then. The price for the box is in between of the Bottle and the SA training setup but also on the lower end. Only disadvantage is that you need some tools to build it.

I have a middle of the road set diy setup. I bought a kids snowboard and cut it a bit shorter and dulled tve steel edges and ducktaped them. It fits perfect with a pair of sneekers and I use it as both a trampboard and a balanceboard on bottles or a wooden railtrainer.

I bought a 3ft half foam roller on Amazon and used an old snowboard. It def helped me last season. Need to start this again soon.

I picked up an old Lamar for $50 with boots and bindings. Sold the boots for $20 to a buddy and boom. I'm left with a $30 training rig. However it did take me half a day to scrape all the wax off and then chemically remove the rest. So my living room wouldn't be covered in it. I also took a grinder to the edges and rounded them off so I can't scratch my furniture.

A towel under and around the bottle can solve some of your rolling issues (kinda).

Also when working on bottle, you kinda have to pop more upwards than off to the side.

So much nostalgia from this
duct tape shoes to an old skateboard and then hop on a trampoline

Where can I get skateboard decks for under $5 (cuz I'll still need extra cash for the tape and the pop)?

I have same set up. I use rubber tube from a bike. No shoes just socks. Definitely harder than premium but perfect for core muscles.

Haha! that's literally my setup, except I don't use duct tape. Just a deck and a soda. Great for balance, you can rotate bottle under the deck to make the task a bit harder. Or, if you want to really push your limits, you can just close your eyes. Also having it in front of my PC, so I can actually train my balance while watching youtube videos ;)

Me and my buddies used to make info boards like this . We didn’t strap our feet down like that we lived in Florida but duct tape the bottle twice filled with water then a skateboard deck

I feel like the proper SA board is better for getting a more realistic feel of snowboard tricks, but the 2L is better for just hardcore balance training, because it moves around and is so much harder.

Omg... Maybe that's why snowboarding came to me so easily.... all those years of my childhood with the tramp board!

I was looking into getting a 6x6 lumber but after seeing the 2 liter, ill just use my old board and a foam roller that I already have. Great vid!

you could wedge something underneath to keep it from rolling

Just curious why you wouldn’t just use your own boards, bindings, and boots to practice on? Isn’t that more realistic?

Has anyone tried this with sheet plastic?
I might try to repurpose the foot straps from my old snake board 😅

A piece of thick and a bit wide metalo-plastic pipe should also work instead of bottle, but it will be pretty slippery :D

Another good option is getting a 3 liter bottle of soda( we get them at Mexican food marts usually) they are more round and a bit thicker plastic than the one you guys were using. Also adds a bit more height. That’s what I’ve been using for the last couple years.

Hi Chris! For this training is good the "old" skateboard without wheels or "old" snowboard with short lenght..?? Thank you! 👊✌️
