Doomsday Prepper: 'Afrovivalism' movement training minorities

More than ten years ago, Sharon Ross left her city life in Houston.

She thought the city was too much for her and it wasn't preparing her for what's to come.

She believes when it comes to surviving natural disasters, minority communities are the most vulnerable.

But Sharon, also known as 'the Afrovivalist,' wants to change that: creating a grassroots community of "preppers," preparing for the worst.

"I always think how am I going to survive next if something happens," said Ross.

ABC13's Chauncy Glover traveled almost 2,000 miles to the backwoods and snowy mountains outside Portland, Oregon, in the middle of the forest to check out what she's doing.

"We aren't prepared. I'm just preparing because I feel it deep in my soul and I get my visions from God. He keeps telling me to prepare."

Be it a natural disaster, a takedown of our entire electrical grid, the apocalypse, or simply if everything stops, the "Afrovivalist" is preparing for the worst. She calls her way of life Afrovivalism.

This is especially important for those living in urban areas who might be forced to leave the cities and large towns of America

I seriously applaud her efforts to prepare. I also believe in my heart it is not a matter of "if" but "when." Unfortunately, her preparedness community will be under a constant fight because she has revealed her resources. She has shown her face on national television. Anyone watching the new or this video knows her place of employment. Anyone joining her group will be at risk of never having peace. Those who failed to prep now know exactly where to go when they run out of supplies. Her 100 acres will be full of people who have failed to do anything to help themselves prior to any negative event or national emergency. Those same unprepared people will feel entitled to her knowledge, her 100 acres, and her prepper groups help. They will bring nothing to support her group as far as resources but will expect every resource to be available to them. As African-Americans we must triage and realize we cannot save everyone. Many black preppers or prepared families are going to sink their "preparedness boat" due to the weight of adding too many unprepared individuals. When the boat is full you must row away.

There is a popular African-American YouTuber who also prepares. His house was broken into while he was at work. He makes daily videos on prepping as a black man. He quickly found out that people will study your location, take into account all the things you mention in your videos about your location, and then rob you. According to him, the thieves attempt to break-in the first day. The second day they came back and were successful. He stated they had eight hours - while he was at work - to take whatever they wanted. I shook my head with disgust watching this video. The thieves wouldn't have known where to go if he had not revealed so much about his location, his preps, etc. etc. The thieves where smarter than he was by allowing him to buy everything, show off everything, and make videos of exactly how he had it stored. When the thieves felt his videos had shown enough items worth taking they did just that. They robbed him. The thieves benefited from his hard work, his savings, and his resources. He had to repurchase everything.

You don't need the 15 or 30 minutes of fame a news story, National Geographic, or any YouTube channel can offer. If you are African-American and are serious about family preparedness, please do not reveal your location, your skills, your abilities, your resources, your land, your anything. Keep your private business out of the streets. The thieves are study and paying close attention.

I strongly encourage my black community of prepared families not to show there preps on national television or any social media. You need to keep your preps close to your chest. My family relocated because of this very reason. We left our old lives, our old friends, and the majority of our family behind. We blend in and no one knows we have resources. No one notices us and that is exactly what we want.

Most people won't stick with a preparedness lifestyle because of its constant work. Americans, for the most part, would rather hang out at Starbucks or stay on facebook.

Help Eachother learn to survive rather than fight Eachother for survival...We might all have to set our daily jobs aside and learn thrive....But think about this...If the end comes how will you hunt or fish people will burn the forests, I would think the safest place in the world that’s fairly populated is Canada otherwise if you can live in Jamaica then your already prepped for life!!!

Not to think the unthinkable but say instead of Americans attacking/warring w/Americans as some want... let's say a foreign power attacked the U.S. Imagine if most Americans had weapons survival tactical & organizational skills like this. 1st_people would be less afraid, 2nd_people would be like "what, invaded?!"lemme get muh gun!"
