In a crash, you want the car to take the kinetic force and not the occupants. You can really tell the dummies in the comments who think that the vehicle that shows less damage is the better of the two. 🤣

I feel like and I know that both of those cars are safe but the merc was good on the pole impact, there was less roof deformation and rear door impact.

mercedes structure is way more safer, the X5 looks fragile. Huge difference is in small details. Try looking the video at 0.50x speed

If you look at the reports from Euro NCAP on these two cars the Mercedes just pips the BMW. The difference is the driver being less protected in both frontal tests. You have to look at the test reports because they're the ones with the real data of what happened to the occupants.
