I drove the Mach e on a backroads test run to test the Co-Pilot. Have a Look.

In all fairness Dave, if you go to Ford’s website it explains copilot. At this point, it’s not intended to be an autonomous technology for curves and country roads.

Nice video. Ford hasn't officially launched the system that is most comparable to the tesla autopilot. That system will be launched later in 2021 and will be a $600 add-on. The feature that you tested in the video is meant as an advanced cruise control on highways/freeways

Dave that was nerve racking and We weren’t in the car! 😳

You are completely mis-using the Co-PIlot feature. It is not Tesla-style autopilot. It is lane centering. It is meant to be used with your hands fully on the wheels. It is not surprising that when you stop driving y our car it will run off the road

Dave, definitely run this same stretch of road in your Tesla Model Y so people can compare and contrast them. Nice video too, Ford's certainly got a lot kinks to work out in their system.

Dave, I get the most useful information from your videos on these EVs. Thank you!

Is that why they call it "Co-Pilot"? You drive and the Co-Pilot just tells you it's time to turn lol

This is very helpful. The copilot is not able to drive through a turn which makes it a non-starter for me. Ford please improve.

that teslas can do this up to 90mph like a laser and anywhere on a curve or straight is nothing short of amazing. Ford has some homework to do (or companies to buy)

Really not sure why you would have done this test with your dogs loose in the back.. It's not like they knew what they were getting into when you asked them if they wanted to go for a ride

Great Video. I would say though, in Ford's defence, the Mach E system is called 'Co-Pilot' not 'Autopilot' It it a sytem to assist and make driving less of a strain, it is not to do it all for you. I would imagine once the autonomous driving system is launched this will be more capable but time will tell if it's as good as Tesla's.

I thought Copilot only worked on roads mapped, apped by Ford like GM's Supercruise, mostly on freeways. I have never seen that it it was particularly aware beyond that. It is not an equivalent to Tesla's autopilot but that is not the kind of road I would feel comfortable with a machine driving anyway. On roads with cross streets, driveways, and potential wildlife the driver should be driving.

Ya know I think as someone who would want to get their feet wet in the EV market, I would be very happy with Co-Pilot. For backroads like this, I honestly like driving through these, it's much more engaging, the twists and turns and whatnot. However I am sure Co-Pilot would be perfect for long straightaways and following traffic for a daily freeway commute.

Do the same run with your Y. Ford has a lot of work to do.

From my understanding the co-pilot 360 is used for highway driving, and when the full hands off software is downloaded it will be for mapped highways, where you can drive hands free for hours at a time, something like super cruise. Using this on back roads and city streets is not what it is really designed for, I would bet my driving skills against any hands free driving on windy roads or city driving on any day. If people really need to use this type of automation in city or back road driving, then they should not behind the wheel in the first place, it staggers the mind how we ever able to get from point A to point B with out any type of help from on board computers. Cars that drive themselves may seem like a fun convenience, but will only produce drivers with sub standard skills, Ford will improve there software over time. So whether it is Tesla's all mighty auto pilot software or Ford's co-pilot 360, if there is an accident it is not the manufacturers fault, the responsibility falls fully on the driver of that vehicle and not paying attention to what they are doing. Sorry for the rant, but I feel this had to be said, but on lighter note, I very much enjoyed your two passengers in the car. Have a great day

Great test Dave! Can you do the same test, same road for Tesla please!

Wow 😳 I actually think that this so bad they should have just waited to implement it into their cars.
Another nice and informative video from you, thanks 🙏

GREAT video showing how copilot handles backroads. That said, this is the scariest YouTube video I have ever seen. I think I lost a year of my life every time it gave up mid turn!

Pretty sure having that system and being tempted to over rely on it is more of a hazard than not having it at all.
