Ukraine War: UK to send Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine, Number 10 confirms

Britain is to send Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine to bolster the war effort against invading Russian forces.

Additional artillery support is also to be sent by the UK to assist the Kyiv government in the face of Kremlin aggression.

The announcement comes after Sky News exclusively revealed the UK was considering supplying Ukraine with British tanks for the first time.

It's a small number of tanks I agree but it might be the push Germany needs to allow other countries that have their Leopard tanks to give them to Ukraine.

Challenger 2 is a serious piece of hardware. Plus we are upgrading to Challenger 3 so may as well let these tanks have their day. Not a single one lost in combat ever (I hope I haven't put a hex on them). Only tank to ever destroy a Challenger 2 was another Challenger 2.

Makes sense. Around 140 Challenger II's are going to be upgraded to Challenger III's and the rest were due to be withdrawn from service. If the Ukraine can use them, better than sending them for scrap or selling them to a nation that doesn't really need some.

The results might be the same as 1991 Gulf war where the predecessor model Challenger 1 destroyed T-72s of the Iraqi Army. Even though T-72 losing to Western Block tanks first started in 1982 Lebanon War when it faced M48 & M60 tanks of the Israeli Army alongside Merkava I & II

14 tanks wont stop russia forces big push in the spring, so unless other countries at least match our support it will be hard for Ukraine to stop russia regaining lost land. Now its time for america and other countries to work together and send more tanks.

The only thing I fear from this is a Challenger 2 being captured. Once the Russians find out what Chobham armour is made of and how thick it is, it's off to the races for a new round stronger than 6BM60 and away goes our hull down advantage.

I don’t see why we can’t send 50 our main line of defence has been our Navy, if an enemy lands we are screwed. Our Navy has always been our first and main line of defence
