Hey Rhett! What an honor. This is so incredibly sweet and informative. My friend from Caroline Guitar directed me to this video and I’m so grateful! Thank you so much for the kind and comprehensive analysis- so grateful and happy to be a part of peoples’ open tuning discovery/journey 🖤… and thanks for sharing and amplifying how guitar music can be so emotive and healing! You rule 🙌🏻

Never Meant by American Football was the song that taught me this tuning. the way Yvette uses it makes it sounds completely different from the typical midwest emo players and i’ve always found that really impressive. it’s so easy to sound “samey” in open tunings

Yvette is the full package, great musicianship, sense of melody, composition and technical prowess. Glad to see her getting more recognition, she and Covet most definitely deserve it

btw .... one of the "original masters" of alternate tunings was Joni Mitchell. She blew everybody's mind back in the day (my day) with dozens of alt tunings. There was this film clip from a movie where a bunch of people were at Mama Cass's house in Laurel Canyon .... David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Jackson Brown .... Clapton was there too, visiting. He was watching Joni play some stuff, and his jaw literally was in his lap. It was hilarious.

The genuine nature of your sentiment towards "another golden age of guitar players" is felt. These are some truly inspiring people in the world of guitar.

You nailed it with the modern young players and their approach. My 12 year-old son started a couple of years ago getting into Hendrix and all of the classic "guitar gods." Now he is learning this tuning and is a huge Yvette and Tim Henson fan. He and his generation have now nearly a hundred years of style to draw from and it's awesome to see how approaches have changed + the great music being made by artists like Yvette pushing the medium forward.

The way her tapping leaps out of the chord shape and back in again is like a bird taking flight. Amazing and passionate.

I’ve been following Yvette the past 3-4 years now. She is really creative in so many ways. Piano, violin, guitar, and she’s a fantastic artist too! And she’s the best at using effects to truly add to the music, not just layer something on top for the sake of it. I can’t wait to see what she does 5-10 years from now.

I had an opportunity to see her play last week. It was amazing! She’s so talented and original. I had a chance to chat with her after the show for a bit and she is such a humble and radiant individual. I was just thinking about her playing right before I found this video. Thanks as always for the great content man!

Nice to see the love for Yvette. I can understand getting lost for an hour watching her play. She is just really fun to watch, playing her songs, but especially watching her create music.

And Rhett steps into the Midwest emo vibe.... I'd be curious to hear you and Rick Beato do a deep dive on this genre together. She is an absolute standout talent shedding light on a 25 year old genre that's finally surfacing.

She is a classical pianist and can play her guitar riffs on piano, rips it up! You should feature her band!

Alternate tunings is one of the greatest things about guitar. Opens up entirely new worlds. Using a capo on standard tuning alone does that. I wish I had a better grasp of the fretboard, especially with single strings tuned differently. like EADGAE or EADGBD but even that is hard cause you always have to keep that one string in mind that is detuned. it's a journey, i guess... but i do envy people who have nailed alternate tunings on guitar and just play most amazing things. from folk to prog and everything inbetween

The face you make at 7:32 is the biggest compliment a musician can give. I also made the same face at the melody. Gosh, her melodies are so beautiful.

Thanks for featuring Yvettes playing. Shes truly original. Got to see her w Covet and spent the whole time with my jaw on the floor. And just watching your facial expressions as you watch her play says it all. Its like watching a magician up close. You can watch every bit and still not know how shes doing what she does.
