Am also an Ex-Amish person. Leaving what didn't feel my truth, I took all the good. Have a rich life and, after about 20 years of shunning I now have peace with my siblings and my beautiful mum. Life is good. So very thankful.

I use to see Amish people from a distance....and liked them . I didnt even have to talk to them. Then one day a Amish man came up to help me when my car wouldnt start. Nobody else offered to. He was so smart and fixed my car easily. He knew exactly what to do. He was so kind and respectful. Just as I had always thought they were. I dont know everything about them but still like them!! I'd love to spend a few hours with them to know more! I am that impressed!

I'm not too sure how but my Grandmother had a few Amish friends she was not Amish. When she passed away they showed up to her funeral service and were very kind and prayed with us. This simple way of living is so over looked anymore. I wish the world would pull together like the Amish community does. I have very much respect for the hard word they do!

I’m a cult survivor. Finally got out 5 years ago after being in it my entire life … I’m 60 now .. and raised my family in it as did my parents with myself and my siblings. My mom finally left my dad & us when she was 60, and for the next 23 years, we were not allowed to contact her ever. I finally couldn’t stand it anymore. She set a wonderful example for us all, that no human should ever have to be, or allow themselves to be controlled by another human!! It is wrong, and it leaves deep scars which may or may not heal. Thank you for sharing this documentary.

My church wants us to study the Bible, to know what Jesus wants from us. We are saved by grace. Thank you, Jesus.

Impressive documentary . My babysitter was Amish, I was blessed to live with her family during the week as my father worked . My mother was frequently ill and in hospital . From a very young age I was accepted by their “community” . Although I was not “full amish “ to this day I consider it a blessing to have been able to partake in this lifestyle . Much gained and learned . I now still today feel more comfortable in dresses and with long hair . I made all of my childrens clothes, and am bilingual . My own family grew up going to farmers markets and eating farm fresh eggs, gardening our own herbs and vegetables. No cable, yes in the church . Pennsylvania Dutch and my second business is a seamstress quilter out of my home . When I needed to discipline my children they wrote Bible verses & yes they are a gift from God always no matter what their age is ! Thank you for posting this, very accurate and many memories .

Belonging to a 'community' is what so many people lack in this day and age. Lovely documentary.

This is absolutely fascinating. I grew up strict Jehovah’s Witness, and I definitely see some parallels in the way we are raised. Not beliefs, but rules EVERYWHERE. It’s no way to live.

A friend of mine in my Bible study group shared this link with us. I started watching and when they showed Rebecca Graber, I thought, “ I know her!” I used to work at the Flatonia Chamber of Commerce and Rebecca would rent a space at Market Days. Her booth always had the longest lines buying her wonderful breads and pastries! Rebecca looks exactly the same as she did 15 years ago.
What a great film about the Amish! Very well put together and I will be watching the rest of the series.

I just love how respectful this is. He has left the old order Amish, but he doesn't criticize or demean them in any way. He just gives us that rare glimpse into their beautiful, simple life. Good or bad. It is what it is.

I respect these folks more than any others. Truly humble and strong people. I wish I could live this way. Pure, simple, and for family and faith.

Joseph, this documentary was so well put together. It was informative and respectful, yet thought provoking. I love how you said towards the end of this episode: If the church service is based on scripture, why wouldn’t they want them to read the Bible? Well done!

Most of us blindly believes that social well being personal happiness depends on material gains. The more material we gathered, the more unhealthy minds we have. Finally I realised that Happiness is from inside not from the outside world.

Their simple, family-oriented, faith-based beliefs are to be admired. Great examples of a two-parent family with morals that are missing today. They have problems but they support themselves and don't depend on government handouts and their children are just as smart as the English kids that graduate high school today without the "woke" teaching of today.
