It is effectively the same camera, just different branding, built via a collaboration between Leica and Panasonic. The Leica D-Lux 109 was the previous model and came with a standalone version of lightroom, not sure this is still the case, the Lumix LX100 MK1 by Panasonic didn't and was 20% cheaper. Both cameras still have a Leica lens and the micro four-thirds sensor.

Is there a difference between the two on how far the lens extends from the body?

If anybody else has already purchased either camera, can you please advise if you hear a mechanical interior sound that emanates from from its interior? I’ve read other online comments about a common grinding type sound that other owners of the older lx100 m1 stated to be common, and Im also hearing a rather loud version of this coming from what seams to be the gearing within the new lx100 m2 I just purchased. This has never been the case with any of my Leica dlux cameras that I’ve had over the years, including the dlux 109, so I’m quite surprised to be hearing this from my brand new lx100 m2. It’s really annoying, and that’s putting it mildly.
