Amazing Grilled Eel (Unagi) in Nagoya- Hitsumabushi

Unagi is Simon’s favourite seafood in Japan. No exaggeration here. Eel is absolutely delightful. So when we were invited to Nagoya to try Hitsumabushi (which is a great way to have eel), with one of the BIGGEST pieces a restaurant could sell, we were all for it.

Thank you to the JTB for setting this up. If you’re booking a trip to Japan, head on over here for some useful info:

Here’s the restaurant we ate at:

And here’s that eel monger we visited:

Could Simon actually do something like a " book of the month " or a book discussion of some sort, something like that? Kinda amazing how much he reads. His opinion on Homo deus (was mentioned in a video by him) was truely interesting to hear!

You should make a sticker or graphic of your tiny village, Martina. Even better yet, you strolling through the tiny village garden meeting your tiny villagers.

"Charcoal can reach up to 700F" Good lord that is hot. Also can I mention I've been watching y'all for Simon has matured into a grown man so beautifully. Listening to him talk about books and meditation and how he feels his choices have been good ones in life because of his happiness, that's really rewarding. I came here when I was a kid and y'all were too. Now we've grown, together. ♥

I was the person who laughed at "d-EEL-icious". (you're welcome Simon! Keep the puns coming! :D)

AAaaa I love hearing the old EYK stuff! There's something just so comforting about it

"-monger" denoting a dealer or trader in a specific commodity (eg fishmonger) OR denoting a person who promotes a specific activity, situation or feeling, especially one that is considered undesirable or discreditable (eg warmonger).

here are some types of mongers:
cheesemonger
costermonger (fruit, mostly)
fellmonger (animal skins)
ironmonger
pearmonger
peltmonger (also animal skins)
relicmonger

This video randomly popped up for me and I must say... I miss seeing them in videos together. I hope both of them are well.

I LOVE UNAGI. From the first time I went to Japan and tried it, I have been in love with that delicious meal. Granted it’s not for everyone, but if you acquire a taste for it, there is no substitute for it on earth.

My job title is cheese monger! The word ‘monger’ means trader, or seller. 😊🧀❤️

We went to Japan last year for our honeymoon and chose to stay in Nagoya for a few days. It was the BEST decision and definitely the highlight of our whole trip. As it's not a typical tourist spot, the people were so friendly and happy that we visited. AND, the unagi was our favourite meal!!!! Could not top that deliciousness! 10/10 recommend unagi and Nagoya.

This brings back memory, the first time I went to Japan, it was in Nagoya. Eating an unagi there making unagi everywhere else taste like a food delivery, they are on a whole different level

Food is always much better when you know it comes from someone interested in putting forth a high-quality product. Thanks for showing us the eel farm.
