TEAM TALK: MOTORGUIDE FAILED AND NOBODY CARED!!! (JUNK!)

The title says it all. Motorguide ceased production of their trolling motors and they are quoted saying "All future trolling motor production is transitioning to the Lowrance® and Simrad® brands to create a unified, cutting-edge fishing experience. As a result, manufacturing under the MotorGuide® brand has ceased." Now, we were never big fans of the new Tour Pro but we do hate seeing legacy brands exit the marine industry. Competition is a good thing and it fosters innovation. Comment below if you are running a Motorguide and how it's been for ya. Thanks y'all!

Funny thing is I didn’t even know that they were gone until I saw this video. Shows you how much I care.

I actually liked my MotorGuide Tour Pro when I had a boat. Ran solid for 3yrs. I prefer the electric motor being in the head vs the mount like the others. I also preferred the electric assist cable drive vs pure electric drive. Just my old school ways I guess. Probably one of very few who agree with this.

I had one and loved it. It was a good trolling motor. Sorry it's discontinued.

Been running my X3 for two years without issue. Does what it needs to do. Added pinpoint for spot lock and also use the Lowrance head unit functions. Works great. Great value. My dad just added the Garmin Kraken. That thing is on another level. But also cost 3x what mine did. To each their own. I guess nobody wanted a good value option. Always trying to keep up with the Jones's

Ive been running the same 60lb thrust Motorguide since 2000. Clean and lube it every season. Sorry to hear they are shutting down.

Bought the new tour a few years ago and installed it on a 97 Hydra Sport. I have since sold that boat. Current owner still has that trolling motor and upgraded all the graphs and added live scope.

I actually loved the new tour despite the larger head. Was very quiet and the head didn’t spin back and forth like all the others when you put it on spot lock. The foot pedal I really liked it was an electric assisted cable steer. Very smooth and because it had both it always had a redundancy system should one go out.

I will admit that it had two warranty recalls for bad boards that would not allow the spot lock function to work correctly. The first time you took it to the mercury dealer he ordered the board and installed it. However that didn’t wholly fix it. So they sent us the end users a plug in dongle that updates the software on the new board and that finally made it right.

A little frustrating, but they paid for every bit of the warranty.

Xi3 owner here. Sad to hear they are calling it quits. I have run mine for 2 years and it has been solid. It hit ton's of rocks, stumps, and deadheads, and it still works great. It's amazing how fast the marine industry went from booming to selling off, and discontinuing major brands.

Other than the big head on the Tour, I have had no problems with the trolling motor. It runs strong and is still dependable.

Been running my Tour Pro for 2 years now, rock solid. Unlike everyone with a MK I know that has to replace their control boards every year.

I run a Motorguide transom mount and I like it. If I buy new I would like Garmin as they are coming on up and will be #1 soon I bet.

Too bad. I really, really liked my XI5 I had on my previous boat.

Hopefully someone comes out with something like the xi3 for the kayak industry.

Industry needs to listen to the customer, until they start doing that again I'll keep what I got.
Btw thanks for getting the lower unit done, you rock!

I had a tour pro for 3 days. The first day was driving my new used boat home, the second day I took it to the lake, ran it for 10 mins almost got thrown overboard by the spot lock and the third day was the day I sold it, there were many other problems too like not wanting to calibrate etc... Nonetheless it was legitimately 3 consecutive days lol. I went to an ultrex next then and a second ultrex after fighting steering sensor issues and having to replace the whole motherboard too. Now I have a Powerpole Move and I haven't looked back. The Move is so many leagues above everything else it's not even funny! I absolutely love it!

I just bought the I5 motor guide and love it. The foot control didn't work and I called customer service and had another one in 3 days. hopefully it will last for years.

Great content! My favorite TM would have to be the Fortrex. Both motor guides I had were good enough for about a year then they were both loud & broken. I Bought an Ultrex 2 years ago and the board went out first year. So I Had warranty replace it and it happened again 5 months later. 3rd time I had to put my Fortrex back on while the Ultrex was getting “serviced”
I just bought a Garmin and I’m not going to Power Poll until they start making them for the working class. $5, 000+ tax & install, easily 6k+ a unit is 🐎 💩. The advance tech doesn’t make it a better product by comparison if the price is unaffordable to 95% of fisherman. The industry is becoming more elitist every ICAST.

After owning the Xi5 and loving it. I feel it was about not being a direct part of a one boat net work and or a poor marketing department….

I didn't even know they were gone. Can't recall the last time I even saw a fishing boat with a Motorguide on it.
