Anytime power is supplied to an iPhone when the device is off it will power on. Wired or wireless, every iPhone I’ve owned does this. My wife’s 8+ does it, my X does it, and our previous iPhones did it. Kind of surprised you didn’t know this as a Tech Reviewer. I you don’t want your notifications waking you up at night schedule Do Not Disturb, pretty simple stuff really.

Face ID works about 70% of the time for me. Kinda annoying considering Touch ID worked like 95% of the time on my 7 plus

There is this feature called “Do not disturb” which you can schedule to mute all notifications during certain hours. Just schedule the time and forget about it, you won’t even notice your phone is switched on at night. And seriously, when did Apple ever have to option of charging your phone when switched off... I haven’t switched off my devices in years

I upgraded from the 6 to the X and I dont regret it one bit. I love how organic and simple the gestures are and how seamless Face ID is with unlocking and passwords... It just works great and it feels less like im using a device and more like a tool that facilitates my life. I understand why some people hate on it (and I truly dont think its for everyone) but it works great for me.

I’ve found the battery life on my iPhone X to be great! Far better than my iPhone 6 ever was!

Battery life is always going to be everything. For me it’s no problem. Like a car, if you drive it a lot at some point you will need to gas up. If you are constantly on the phone vs real world you would be around 70-80% at the end of the day. I get it that people use it for work. Don’t expect it to be unlimited battery life. If you know your phone is at 30% start charging duh. You gas up before 1/4 tank.

The battery life on mine is absolutely identical to when I fisrt took it out of the box 2 months ago. I get 2 full days of battery life one single charge. That's the best I've ever had out of any of my previous iPhones (3g, 4, and 5). I absolutely love it!

Bought it about 2 weeks after it was released. Overall been really happy with it. The notch at the top is a non-factor, dont even notice it anymore. Camera is really good ( no pixel 2) but very impressive compared to other smartphones out right now. Battery hasn't been an issue at all, still ending my day with > 30% left over, with a good amount of use during the day. The phone is fast, doesn't run into any issues with speed, only issues is IOS 11 but we could talk all day about that debacle. FaceID is fairly reliable, i mean it probably works 90-95% which is good enough for me, I did like touch ID but the change over has been easy. Been using wireless charging for the phone at night (first phone i've owned with wireless charging) and I mean it works, does the job, is kinda cool, but if it wasn't there I wouldn't mind. The gestures are easy to get used too, I find myself doing them on my gf's iPhone 6s, and find im not really missing the home button. Overall I feel that its a great iPhone, I think its the best after you get used to the lack of home button etc., its just the price thats killer. Mine was $600 on a 2 year contract for the 64 gb version, and had to up my plan, so a substantial price to get into the iPhone X. I enjoy the Apple ecosystem (own a MacBook pro, etc.) but if I switched to android and went back to PC I wouldn't be heartbroken. Apple did enough with this phone to keep me satisfied, and I feel most people will enjoy this phone without any regrets (hardware wise atleast).

My battery lasts from 7am till after 10pm when I plug it up at about 25%. And that includes using navigation unplugged. Face ID needs to be quicker but an extra half second don’t change the world. It works just great. Sorry for your bad experience.

I understand wanting some other way to unlock the phone if FaceID doesn't work, but is putting in your passcode really that troublesome? And all iPhones turn on while charging. It's just what they do

My wife and I recently upgraded to iPhone X from the 6. Switched from Verizon to T-Mobile because we got $700 off by purchasing two phones. We paid $650 for each phone vs the $1000. Gestures were not a hard transition. Definitely get a good case. I went with the UAG prism with tempered glass screen saver. It is not too bulky but offers superior protection and allows the wireless charging. Overall I am happy with the phone for the price paid. I probably would have bought the iphone8 if this deal wasn't so good.

As for the battery life, I have discovered some things besides the standard things (like turning of background services etc.):
1. Turn off True Tone. It really is not that important and you won't notice anything different after a while.
2. Set your wallpaper black and in apps switch to dark mode, by that, I mean use the apps' Dark mode, not the intelligent color invert (or whatever it is called in English in the Settings app). Elements as dark as possible generally use less power thanks to the OLED screen.
3. Also manage the Settings for location services. Turn everything unnecessary off.
4. Turn the notifications of less relevant apps off. This saved me a ton of battery life and also improved my own concentration towards other things. We don't have to use the phone all the time. ;)

Fingerprint scanner where the logo is to match the Google Pixel location and LG's. That would cure so many peoples issues and concerns.
