Ayaan Hirsi Ali on Islamism: Activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali has been on an al-Qaeda hit list for nearly a decade. Here she discusses the current wave of Islamic extremism.

Like the editor of Charlie Hebdo, Stephane Charbonnier, New York-based activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali was and still is on an al-Qaeda hit list. She says the West needs to acknowledge the link between radical Islam and violence and in the wake of the attacks, the media mustn't be silenced in its pursuit of free conscience and expression.

Importance of girl's education, not just religious education, come into sharp focus when you listen to a this lady, who talks out so bravely and eloquently, out of her own experience, from an Islamic background. In conservative Muslim countries, girls have to brave acid and bullets on the face, to get a decent education. She is fortunate that way. Once educated, even a Muslim girl develop a questioning, skeptical, and critical mind. Submission and surrender to any religious ideology becomes abhorrent, a curse and an anathema to her. But it puts her in a collision course with Islam. No wonder Muslims don't like girl's education. Like the case of Malala.

ibeetnoobs The Quran contains at least 109 (perhaps as many as 164) verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers for the sake of Islamic rule.  Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding.  Muslims who do not join the fight are called 'hypocrites' and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter.

Unlike nearly all of the Old Testament verses of violence, the verses of violence in the Quran are mostly open-ended, meaning that they are not restrained by the historical context of the surrounding text.  They are part of the eternal, unchanging word of Allah, and just as relevant or subjective as anything else in the Quran.

Unfortunately, there are very few verses of tolerance and peace to abrogate or even balance out the many that call for nonbelievers to be fought and subdued until they either accept humiliation, convert to Islam, or are killed.  Muhammad's own martial legacy - and that of his companions - along with the remarkable stress on violence found in the Quran have produced a trail of blood and tears across world history.

A couple examples of hundreds: 
Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them" 

Quran (2:216) - "Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not."  Not only does this verse establish that violence can be virtuous, but it also contradicts the myth that fighting is intended only in self-defense, since the audience was obviously not under attack at the time.  From the Hadith, we know that this verse was narrated at a time that Muhammad was actually trying to motivate his people into raiding merchant caravans.

Quran (2:191-193) - "And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah [disbelief] is worse than killing... And fight them until there is no more Fitnah [disbelief and worshipping of others along with Allah] and worship is for Allah alone."

Stop comparing Christianity and islam!!! look at the 2 main characters in both religions; Jesus and Mohammed, both told people to follow their example, right? Jesus was NEVER violent! Mohammed was VERY violent!

Sahih Bukhari 6.79,  
The Jews brought to the Prophet a man and a woman from among them who had committed illegal sexual intercourse. The Prophet said to them, "How do you usually punish the one amongst you who has committed illegal sexual intercourse?" They replied, "We blacken their faces with coal and beat them." He said, "Don't you find the order of Ar-Rajm (i.e. stoning to death) in the Torah?" They replied, "We do not find anything in it." 'Abdullah bin Salam (after hearing this conversation) said to them, "You have told a lie! Bring here the Torah and recite it if you are truthful." (So the Jews brought the Torah). And the religious teacher who was teaching it to them, put his hand over the Verse of Ar-Rajm and started reading what was written above and below the place hidden with his hand, but he did not read the Verse of Ar-Rajm. 'Abdullah bin Salam removed his (i.e. the teacher's) hand from the Verse of Ar-Rajm and said, "What is this?" So when the Jews saw that Verse, they said, "This is the Verse of Ar-Rajm." So the Prophet ordered the two adulterers to be stoned to death, and they were stoned to death near the place where biers used to be placed near the Mosque. I saw her companion (i.e. the adulterer) bowing over her so as to protect her from the stones.
