Thanks for this series, Moose! Reminds me of my favourite C++ teacher in university.
I like that you're using an editor instead of an IDE for teaching. I've seen many programmers
who don't understand how complex their code is because their IDE emphasizes class structures
instead of file/directory structures.

I forgot to mention: the series might get some more viewers with "how to" and "swing" in the title.
I don't think many people have an urge to build GUIs for managing students,
but I've heard good things about writing GUIs in Visual Basic for tracking the killer's IP address.
