At this year's first presidential debate, one candidate stumbled, the other repeatedly lied. CBS News correspondent John Dickerson, anchor of "The Daily Report," considers the next steps in an election in which President Biden has declared democracy itself is on the ballot.

Why are we talking about his age still? It’s a health issue and anyone with any experience with a loved one who suffers from dimentia / Alzheimer’s who listened to Biden understands that. Praise this man for a lifetime of service but save him from himself and his inner circle (including his family apparently) who care more about power and influence than they do about the President’s health and legacy.

If Biden goes, Harris must go too. If she can't step up as presidential nominee from vice presidential nominee, then she certainly can't step up to the presidency if the president is incapable of serving. Otherwise, the Dems are saying Harris can't be the nominee, but if the nominee wins and then dies, Harris can step up to be president. They BOTH have to go.

The stakes could not have been greater in American politics. While I agree anyone can have a bad debate night -- this was not a one-off. Biden said it is "hard to debate a liar" and I vehemently disagree. You respond point by point with facts and Biden did not do that - whether he was suffering with a cold or whatever --- it was an extremely alarming and unacceptable performance. He is speaking with his family -- and in addition-- former Presidents and the Democratic party hierarchy need to sit down with him for a very frank and candid chat.
