Australia is Headed Towards Economic Collapse

Australia has been extremely lucky economically for multiple decades now - avoiding nearly all the economic crashes faced by other developed nations. This luck has seen Australia chase easy relentless growth that has greatly increased the odds of a future economic collapse - including the Australian Housing Market.

Do you think Australia is headed towards economic disaster?

Australia as a whole was the winner in the mining boom, unfortunately Australia was the loser when it came to politicians squandering that wealth.

My wife and I have ran a business for over 5 years. Blood, sweat and tears. Struggled with red tap, logistics, rent and cheap imports destroying our market share. We re-invested every cent over the years but simply could not deal with all the mounting costs of running a small business in Australia. After cutting the business right back I decided to leave a major city and diverted all our money into property. We built more equity in our 2 properties in 2 years than we could've ever made with the business in 10 years. We don't employee anyone anymore and I don't plan on starting a business again. Instead of innovating and creating more products, I'll probably focus on flipping property in regional Australia. There is nothing else I can provide to the community in terms of a profitable business without taking a huge risk. How sad is that. I couldn't beat them, so I joined them.

@ 7:05 that is the double edged sword, the fertility rate is dropping, because women can't find men that can afford to buy a house, so they don't want to procreate with males that cannot supply them with the security they need for procreation, because the immigration rates are pushing up house prices.
I can guarantee anyone reading this, if the house prices fell back to 4 time the median salary, the birth rate would spike back up to baby boomer levels.

Why not lower the current housing prices ?
If houses can be monopolized what next.

I don't understand one thing about Australia, a big place surrounded by natural border like the sea and they are facing housing problems because of wealthy migration, in theory they should countroll it, but their politicians are not willing to it.

You can keep Australia and it's high prices for everything. I lived there for 25 years and still have skin in the game but I realised long ago that the mainstream press push a never-ending brainwash campaign about Australia being the best country to live in. Newsflash: It isnt! Nowhere is, but bang for buck, Australia fails miserably. I've taken my hard earned money and moved to Thailand. My standard of living has increased five fold. No stress, no crime, no road rage, no crazy ever-rising costs. Next year with all the money I've saved, from not getting ripped off, I'll move to Europe and work a gig there.
Australia, thanks to it's wonderful politics, is about 50 years behind SE Asia. If China reduces demand for iron ore, Australia is going backwards for the next decade. All while taxes and costs continue to rise.

There is a serious recession/depression coming, like we haven’t seen for nearly 100 years.

so nothing much has changed since the early 60s: "Australia is a lucky country run mainly by second rate people who share its luck. It lives on other people's ideas, and, although its ordinary people are adaptable, most of its leaders (in all fields) so lack curiosity about the events that surround them that they are often taken by surprise." sharp decline in economic complexity shows that we went back to sleep after the Keating wake-up call in the late 80s....

Strange, I don't remember making a cent from all those minerals in our ground. Where's my dividend cheque?

IMO I believe the retirement crisis will get even worse. Many struggle to save due to low wages, rising prices, and exorbitant rents. With homeownership becoming unattainable for middle-class Australians, they may not have a home to rely on for retirement either.

I truly can’t wait for the crash. Well and truly exhausted from smug real estate investor types.

The AUD is becoming increasingly devalued and worthless on the international stage. Even the Canadian dollar is steady pulling away from us after a decade of parity. The higher prices go the more worthless the AUD becomes. $120K is the new $80k. Buckle up kids

Australia has created one of the biggest real estate bubbles in history of mankind! The consequences of this could be disastrous. Nonetheless, there’s a shift happening where pension funds are moving from stock market investments, like the ASX, into real estate. In the next few years, we might see superannuation funds buying up Australian houses on a massive scale. This is likely in preparation for what’s coming. Don’t believe that superannuation funds will immediately buy properties worth millions; what they want now is government approval to do so. When the housing market crashes and property prices plummet, like Wile E. Coyote without a parachute, all the foreclosed properties will be snapped up by superannuation funds and rented out as they disengage from a non-performing stock market

I don't think people realise how close we are to a housing collapse, Australia relies so much on iron exports that it is scary how reliant we are on mining exports. Oceania (mostly Australia) sold the greatest amount of exported iron ore at 53.8% of the global total.
