Umræðuþræðir / Talk Series: Anda Rottenberg

Þriðji gestur Umræðuþráða árið 2022 var Anda Rottenberg, sýningarstjóri, listfræðingur og gagnrýnandi í Varsjá. Anda hefur á löngum og fjölbreyttum ferli mótað yfirgripsmikla innsýn í pólska og alþjóðlega samtímalist. Það var mikill fengur fyrir íslenskt listalíf að fá hana til landsins og halda hér erindi.

Anda Rottenberg er menntuð við háskólann í Varsjá, MA 1970. Hún starfaði í Pólsku vísindaakademíunni 1973-1986. Stofnandi EGIT Art Foundation, 1986; Varsjá Soros Center of Contemporary Art, 1992; Institute of Art Promotion Foundation, 1997. Forstöðumaður ‘Zachęta’ National Art Gallery í Varsjá 1993-2001; Ráðgjafi Museum of Modern Art, New York 2001-2002; Forseti ráðgjafarnefndar dagskrár og dagskrárstjóri Nútímalistasafnsins í Varsjá 2005-2007. Frá og með 1980 sýningarstjóri og meðstjórnandi margra alþjóðlegra sýninga. Sýningarstjóri (1993-1995) og framkvæmdastjóri pólska skálans á Feneyjatvíæringnum 1993 – 2001 og Sao Paolo tvíæringnum 1997 – 2007 (meðal annars). Höfundur fjölmargra texta um myndlist. Akademískur kennari í sýningarstjórn við ýmsa háskóla. Meðstofnandi og stjórnarmaður í Manifesta 1; Félagi við Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlín 2015/2016; Meðlimur í valnefnd Documenta 12. Núna skipaður menningarritstjóri „Vogue Polska“ tímaritsins (frá og með 2017). Stjórnandi vikulegra útvarpsþátta, Andymateria, frá og með 2012. Anda starfar jafnframt sjálfstætt sem rithöfundur og sýningarstjóri.

Umræðuþræðir eru gestadagskrá sem unnin er í samstarfi Listasafns Reykjavíkur, Kynningarmiðstöðvar íslenskrar myndlistar og Listaháskóla Íslands með stuðningi Íslandsstofu. Frá árinu 2012 hefur úrval virtra alþjóðlegra listamanna, sýningarstjóra og gagnrýnenda tekið þátt.

Third Talk Series guest of 2022 was Anda Rottenberg, Warsaw-based exhibitions curator, art historian and critic. Over a long and varied career, Rottenberg has developed a comprehensive insight into Polish and international contemporary art. It is a great honor for the Icelandic art scene to have her come to the country and give a talk here. In her talk, entitled ´Long way to Laramie, Wyoming´ Anda will briefly describe the history of intolerance, specially pointed against the people of another sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, etc.

Anda Rottenberg is educated at the University of Warsaw, MA 1970. Employed in the Polish Academy of Sciences 1973-1986. Founder of the EGIT Art Foundation, 1986; Warsaw Soros Center of Contemporary Art, 1992; Institute of Art Promotion Foundation, 1997. Director of the ‘Zachęta’ National Art Gallery in Warsaw 1993-2001; Visiting consultant of the Museum of Modern Art, New York 2001-2002; President of the Program Advisory board and the Program Director of the Warsaw Museum of Modern Art 2005-2007. As of 1980 curator and co-curator of many international exhibitions. Curator (1993-1995) and commissioner of the Polish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 1993 – 2001 and the Sao Paolo Biennale 1997 – 2007 (among others). Author of the numerous texts on art. Academic teacher of curatorial studies. Co-founder and a board member of Manifesta 1; Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin 2015/2016; Member of the selection committee of Documenta 12. Currently appointed the Culture Editor of “Vogue Polska” magazine (as of 2017). Author of the personal weekly radio broadcast Andymateria as of 2012. Acting also as a freelance art writer and curator.

TALK Series is a visitors program initiated by the Reykjavik Art Museum, the Icelandic Art Center and the Iceland University of the Arts with the support of Business Iceland. Since 2012, a selection of highly regarded international artists, curators and critics have participated.
