Live Primitive Grenade With Black Powder

Primitive grenades were often made from cast metal, stuffed with black powder, a very basic fuse was inserted, lit, and tossed at an opposing force. The effectiveness was......limited. Primitive grenades varied in consistency and explosive filler, black powder, is relatively weak compared to modern explosives. They still inflicted a ton of damage and totally changed the course of warfare. It would have done some legit damage if Guy Fawkes managed to complete his nefarious plot.

Someone posted a video of him making a "cloned" cast iron grenade by simply welding two hemispheres together and putting a lit fuse in it. Well, we decided to make the real deal and test it out for you to see.

Black powder is so blah. But, a ton of it would do some damage. Especially if you do it Guy Fawkes style.

Remember kids if you can see the explosion, the explosion can see you.

His expression with the first grenade was only 80% sure it was safe lol

The sound of shrapnel flying by is terrifying.

I’ve never seen a real old school grenade before. Didn’t realized that’s what videogames and cartoons based their bomb designs off of

"Any weapons in the car sir?"
"No, only my 19th century grenades "

You know its a grenade because the explosion is underwhelming and the potential to maim is ridiculously high.

The fact the shrapnel was going fast enough to sound like that means that shit would do some true damage

Fun fact, he edited out the goofy "BOOM!" Onomatopoeia that emanated from that explosion

Probably one of the best demos of a grenade I've seen in a while.

Took me a split second to realize that sharp sound at the end was shrapnel whizzing by like a bullet

When I was a kid I got a couple 100 foot spools of firecrackers for the 4th. Instead of lighting them off, I spent the rest of July taking the spools apart and opening each individual firecracker. Inside were 3 different powders, so I had 3 containers to collect them individually as well. I didn't know that what I was doing was illegal, but I knew it was dangerous. By August I had a lot of each kind of powder, and I made what I guess is a pipe bomb out of them, layering them back together, taking thousands of small firecrackers and making 1 huge one. I lit a long fuse and ran as fast as I could...which was a good thing because that sucker popped much faster than I thought it would. It had a very weird high pitched metallic sound similar to this video and even though I had made it a fair distance away, a small piece of something still scraped the back of my calf instantly when I heard the sound, no delay. Looking back that was a lot of unneeded effort to accomplish something basic chemistry teaches...but what a fun experiment. I do not advise anyone to reproduce my experiment, but it you do, dont use the fuse that comes with the spools, it burns down crazy fast lol.

Never thought I’d see a man in a Megan Trainer shirt demonstrate how a primitive grenade works but here we are

Personally I think he said "Nice" because he saw his camera survived without shrapnel damage

Imagine accidentally lighting the fuse near the body of the grenade

Old School works good enough, but if you read about the early Grenadiers you quickly realize Grenadiers were considered mad and short lived because the fuse burn speed varied so much.
