HUGE respect to all the guys in the comments that actually came here to help, tons of great stuff here.

About to research and do inspections on the sump and oil lines. Highly suspect a blockage that is keeping oil in the top of the engine and not returning it for circulation. Luckily for this engine, I think it's circulating some oil still and didn't do any harm yet.

Thanks guys! 🙌🏽📈 Only up from here!

The pick up sump pick up port screens are clogged. Each port on the oil pump has a screen . They are probably filled with sludge. 100%. Once the sump is empty, there is no oil pressure because the pump can't scavenge any oil out of the block. if you don't fix it, the bearings will burn up if they aren't damaged already. Remove the oil pump from the side of the engine and clean it!

1. Never run an engine with zero oil pressure. You will trash your bearings very quickly. This is true on ANY motor.

2. Its a dry sump, i have dry sump motors in one of my boats that cost more than a new McLaren each, i can disconnect the belt & spin the oil pump without the motor running, pre lubing the entire motor. In your case, you could run a flush thru the engine, or even diesel fuel spinning the oil pump to circulate it thru out the entire motor & clean out sludge. Then drain, and fill with oil, spin the oil pump again to cycle oil thru the engine again. Do several oil changes like this before running the engine.

I suspect you have major sludge blocking oil returns from the turbos, and maybe other places thruout the engine. I would also recommend using your scope to look in your oil pan, in the intake tubes from your turbos to your intake & see if there is oil in there i suspect lots of oil from blown turbo seals.

That motor should not be started again, until you have cleaned out, flushed, & comfirmed excellent, consistent oil pressure spinning the oil pump manually with a drill, without the motor running.

The next episode will be titled: How to LS swap your McLaren.

I'm screaming at the screen. STOP! 10 psi and less is not pressure.
First red flag is the dry sump catch tank has very little drain out. That is where the majority of the oil should be.
The issue is something to do with the scavenger pump, either it has failed or it's blocked. I don't know if it has a filter screen, but it will need to be removed to check.
When you first fill the oil the catch tank is filled up. That feeds the high pressure oil pump. Once all that oil is pumped out the engine pressure will drop. As the scavenger is not working all the oil will sit in the sump instead of going to the catch tank. The oil level in the block is too high and will go through the PCV causing it to smoke.
The oil normally warms up quickly and the level test doesn't take that long. With no oil pressure the oil isn't getting pumped around to warm up.

At this point you need to stop hoping the best and realize that you’ll need to possibly rebuild this engine.

Sometimes these episodes are hard to watch or even listen to but insane respect for taking this project on by yourself with seemingly not much mechanical knowledge

Oil pressure switch potentially faulty, yes take a punt and replace it. Mechanical gauge showing zero oil pressure with 2 separate gauges, you’re being told something - engine off immediately don’t run until fully diagnosed. Be interesting to see the ultimate fault.

Dude 😂 that battle droid at 26:30 cracked me up so bad 😂😂😂.!!!

McLaren almost there .!!!

Couple options without dropping the engine:

- try liqui moly engine flush before replacing the oil next time
- drop the pan and check the pickup tube
- check the oil pump, may need to be replaced
- Tavarish had an over-oiling turbo situation with his 650s, check out his videos
- call Cannonball Garage, they do a ton of McLaren stuff
- visually inspect the cats. If they’re truly oil soaked they may be past the point of return

If you suspect an oil blockage or sludge build up, why not use something like Marvel Mystery Oil with cheap oil to flush the engine?

ETA: since you are getting good start up oil pressure, and it slowly drops, it could be the oil pump pick-up tube o-ring. If it's cracked or worn out from heat cycles, then it could be allowing oil to leak by it after it warms up.

Also, if you have a lot of sludge build up, then oil can build up on top of the heads and preventing the oil from draining back into the sump. If it won't drain back into the sump, you get no oil pressure and tons of white smoke.

AND STOP RUNNING IT WITH NO OIL PRESSURE! Holy hell dude, you are wearing the hell out of those bearings.

I don't even know if I would watch this channel if it wasn't such a train wreck

The Oil temp needs to be 190 degrees F to perform the oil check. I really hope I didn't watch that engine get destroyed by running with no oil pressure. Seems like the scavenging pump isn't refilling the sump which is why it started with normal pressure then dropped to low/zero after the sump was drained.

If the bearings were good before, well they suck now. Never run a motor without oil pressure.

use liqui moly engine flush highly recommend tbh

I've seen some pretty impressive sludge removal with Valvoline Restore motor oil. Maybe try that?

The strainer for Oil pickup is block, train the oil out and fill up with diesel and leave overnight maybe it helps

I would expect a tappety sound if there was no flow to the upper part of the engine. I feel your trepidation on hurting the engine, so keep going slow brother, you will figure it out! Had a blast working with you! 😁

A McLaren's oil pressure should typically be around 6.5 bar (approximately 95 psi) under normal operating temperatures and high RPMs, although it can reach as high as 10 bar (145 psi) during cold starts due to higher viscosity oil.
