2.1.a Compare in-band and out-of band
Data plane refers to all the functions and processes that forward packets/frames from one interface to another.
Control plane refers to all the functions and processes that determine which path to use. Routing protocols, spanning tree, ldp, etc
Management plane of a networking device is the element of a system that configures, monitors, and provides management, monitoring and configuration services. Two types:
In-band
Out-Of-Band (OOB)
In-band - Uses the network (IP address or protocol) to configure and manage a router or a switcher:
SSH
Telnet
Advantage: You can configure routers and switches remotely.
Disadvantage: If you are using telnet, password could get compromised.
Out-Of-Band - Does not use the network to manage. It manages by going straight to a router and connecting to it via a console port.
Disadvantage: you have to go to every single router.
Advantage: Secured and not dependent on the network
