I do this with color pencils, I dont know why it never occurred to me to do it with watercolors. I've avoided watercolor because I couldn't ever get the tones I was looking for...🤦‍♂️ thank you so much for this.

You are teaching more than my warercolor basics course in the "best" art college in my state. Thank you for bringing me back to my trad art!

I’ve never thought of this! There are definitely two vibes to the tree. On the left you have bright and vibrant spring, and on the right you have a sleepy autumn tree.

Thank you so much. I will start doing this technique.

I painted my bedroom french blue. I went over my sister's peach.

I got an awesome lavender blue color that seemed to change constantly especially with the light that shone in.

Love a underpainting, I use underpainting in my digital work, having initially gotten into watercolor illustration and then choosing to go digital. It feels so natural in my work flow and I feel like it definitely gives it a unique look to my digital work

More magic, the two layers works so well

That's really neat... I suppose I do use undertones but I just hadn't thought of it like that before. I feel like the tree maybe could have used more of a blue-ish tone? That's probably just my opinion, but I typically think of pine trees being more blue-sage green.
