Video Transcript:
Hi, Jordan Sandler here with More Prepared Minutes. Dogs and cats are like members of the family, so whether it's an earthquake, hurricane, power outage or other disaster, don't forget to prepare for pets in an emergency. Being prepared for these situations could save their lives.
Before an emergency, make sure your dog or cat is micro-chipped, licensed and is wearing id tags, so they can be returned to you if you're separated. Make sure they're up to date on all their vaccinations since they may be in a shelter with other animals if they get lost. Develop an emergency plan with a friend or family member who can care for your pets if you are not home when an emergency happens.
It's also important that your dogs and cats have their own survival kit. More Prepared Pet Survival Kits are in a convenient backpack (open a dog survival kit). Included are food, water, a blanket, food and water bowls, a collar, a leash, a pet first aid kit, waste bags, and other items your dog and cat will need in an emergency.
Since pets can respond to your anxiety and may hide or become difficult to handle in an emergency, it's important for you to remain calm. They may be frightened and disoriented and not behave as usual with people or other animals, so watch them closely. Dogs should be kept leashed and cats should be in a carrier. I always keep an extra leash in my nightstand, in case an emergency happens when I am sleeping. If you pet does get lost, call the nearest animal shelter to report them missing. When it is safe, return to your neighborhood to search for them and distribute lost pet posters.
Don't forget to prepare for your dogs and cats before an emergency, since it could save their lives. More Prepared Pet Survival Kits have the items you'll need to care for them in a disaster. I'm Jordan Sandler with More Prepared, where peace of mind is just one click away.
