what makes this kinda scary is that at the beginning it's all empty, an unknown date in time all calm, and just within a few seconds the timeline goes back and presumably what was happening before the little planet vortex appeared literally doesn't exist anymore, it got erased and you as a player is the only one aware of what happened
note how the entire background and even sky changes when the enslaved little planet comes back, it all got reverted, doomed to happen again unless you change it

“try again” makes sense in the context because eggman has the timestones, he’s going to go back in time again to try again. If you get the timestones or go to the past to stop him from acquiring the timestones, you have permanently freed little planet from the loop.

One thing I really like about this ending is that it feels significantly worse than the others, everything happens nearly the same, and considering he only has 1 time stone how much of a problem can it really be? After all you need all 7 to do anything. But then as you look at the peaceful horizon, BAM! It sweeps the rug from under you and tells you that this isn’t a joke. Regardless of how little or how many he has it doesn’t matter, He is a genius, and even 1 of them is enough for him to destroy your world and everything it stands for and they make sure you know that.

Funfact. Since I didn't read well as a child I thought it was the good ending (or rather I didn't know there were 2 endings) since instead of reading "try again" I read "coming soon"Thinking there was a sequel to the game
