I love the artistic approach to the box art on Criterion releases. They're so well done, that I always try to display them facing forward on my shelves! :-)

I have the Criterion DVD of Robocop and it's a classic disc but the problem I have with it is that it's Non Anamorphic. It's still very watchable but kinda strange considering I have a '50 inch t.v., the 20th anniversary disc is Anamorphic with DTS sound but it lacks some color depth that the criterion had! Both have their pros and cons, is the Blu Ray worth getting?

Breathless was big in the French New Wave, which lead to all of those movies in the 60's and 70's that you loved. In turn, all of those awesome movies of the 60's and 70's lead to the awesome indie flicks we have today. I think you will enjoy it.

I don't know if it's the same commentary, but the Robocop Steelbook also has an audio commentary with Verhoeven, Neumeier, and Davison. I'll definitely take your word for it though!

I would love to hear your reaction to Breathless. When I first saw it in high school (about 4 years ago), the film paired with the excellent features on the Criterion set absolutely changed the way I viewed cinema, and I now truly believe that Godard is the single greatest director we've had yet (at the very least the most ambitious). The packaging doesn't lie, there was before Breathless, and there was after Breathless.

I love the few Criterion's I own. Their transfers and extras are always of the highest quality. Naked Lunch took my breath away after years of watching the movie on VHS. Picked up the Robocop Criterion disc for 5 bucks used which I still treasure (I'm also a stickler for correct aspect ratios). Some of my fave movies from the Criterion Collection include Videodrome, Brazil, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, and Blow Out.

I remember seeing Robocop in the theater back then, and I was 7 at the time.

Gotta love Criterion! It's basically been my film school for the past 2 years. I've learned more about film from those commentaries and extras than any other source. Also, not sure if you've gone through the special features on the Robocop disc already and discovered this, but the illustrated essay is like the Alien laserdisc making-ofs: a frame by frame special feature with lots of great tidbits on the making of the film.

Hey Zaranyzerak I think I found something interesting. I went ahead and found my Robocop Trilogy DVD set from MGM from I think back in 2004 and apparently the 1st movie does feature a commentary by the director, co-writer, and executive producer however the 4th guy you mentioned isn't present. This leads to the question on how different this commentary is compared to the one included in the criterion edition from this video.

I had no idea this had the same director as Total Recall.

Hello from Ireland. Robocop is one of my favourite movies.  I can't remember when i bought the dvd. Robocop (special edition) But there is a commentary featuring three of the people you mention. The Robocop expert's name isn't mentioned. but i would be surprised if it's not the same commentary.

I LOVE my copy of the "RoboCop" Criterion. Though I also have the 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition steelbook, I love the video transfer of the director's cut on the Criterion.

Ya, I have a long way to got too, I have 15 dvds currently with plans to get more soon, I believe Seven Samurai was the first Criterion dvd I got and you can't ask for a better introduction than that.

Loved RoboCop since I was a kid, now 45.
These days phisical media is so cheap I'm finally upgrading to the Blu-ray for £3 and while I'm waiting for it to arrive I found this Criterion collection DVD in a charity shop in mint condition for 99p. I am like a kid in a candy shop. Best film ever alongside predator.👍

Wow. What a throw back experience watching this in late 2019. With the restored 4k Blu Ray for Ran from Studio Canal & Arrow's new 4k Blu-ray for RoboCop (limited edition) I'm curious about your thoughts on the latest offerings of said films.
