The last thumbnail of that young woman in the red hat just blew me away! Everything about it. I asked, who executed that piece of work, but recieved no response. I'd love to see more of such complete mastery. Few & far between! Even Sargent didn't hone in that tight, yet soft. Beautiful!

Thank you Mark! Your videos are so informative and inspiring. I'm on a very tight budget, but I am going to get started oil painting come #$%& or high water. I have been practicing drawing, and playing with still life set ups, etc. About two years ago, I purchase a set of inexpensive oil paints made by Master's Touch at Hobby Lobby. My original intent for the paint was for scratch-built diorama minis. I decided I wanted to delve into the world of fine art with oil painting instead because I have wanted to learn to oil paint since the early 1980's. Budget-wise, I am going to start with inexpensive brushes from value packs. I want to begin with color studies and sketches, so I would like to use paper. I have some high quality fountain pen paper I would like to use for oil painting. I have the proper Liquitex Professional Mediums Gesso for priming the paper. However, I am also interested in priming my paper with shellac. I am thinking I would prefer shellac because it would give the fountain pen paper more tooth than gesso. The paints in the set are as follows: Titanium White, Ivory Black, Lemon yellow, Yellow medium, Yellow Ochre, Scarlet, Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Pthalo Blue, Pthalo Green, Plant Green, and Burnt Umber. I took the plastic off and discovered the paints are made with refined flax oil. I would like to begin with the colors closest to your Geneva Essential Pallet. If you need the color info from the tubes, please let me know. I am very hopeful you will advise me. I will be following your workflows. I am a musician and retired band director, so I understand the importance of disciplined practice.
Thank you for your amazing content here on YouTube and of course, on your website.

Mark is so great. He's like a psychiatrist for painters. Sometimes I have a string of really great paintings then I hit one where I mash up the colors, I hate the lights, whatever. Take a breath, come back to drawmixpaint, watch the advise videos and suddenly things are back on track. Breath in...breath out...watch drawmixpaint.
