Why Don't Uchihas Just Swap Their Mangekyou Sharingan?

The Etermal Mangekyou Sharingan is a great boost in power for any Uchiha. So why don't Uchihas just swap their regular Mangekyou Sharingan so that everyone gets an EMS? The Uchiha Clan needs to sacrifice someone else to get the EMS but in theory they could just trade eyes? It's not necessary for one of the brothers to sacrifice himself right?

Well, things are not so clear cut in the Naruto series, espcially when we talk about characters like Sasuke, Itachi, Madara, and Izuna. The new information we get in Naruto Shippuden chages a lot about what we thought the Sharingan and the Uchiha clan themselves were like. Let's explore these concepts in this video.

One thing that always grinded my gears in Naruto, was how easy it is to transplant body parts, especially eyes. Looks to be easier that screwing in a light bulp.

There is a theory where you do not simply “swap” the eyes, but quite literally “merge” them together, hence why the MS patterns combine.

I don't think Madara knew swapping eyes would give eternal light, until his brothers death

I find the idea that the swapping being possible much more interesting since it only makes the fact that no one did it all the more tragic

I think this is one of those: Kishimoto didnt think too deep about it.

But in a more canon sense: I think its just part of the overall Uchiha tragedy as a clan. For better or worse, Uchiha only cared about themselves. We see as much in the story Itachi tells about Izanagi.

They are so self centered that they dont really think clearly and we also see as much just before the Uchiha masacre where everyone is breathing down Fugaku’s throat to rebel.

Uchiha just have this really bad habit of tunnel vision and short sightedness when it comes to the larger picture. Which is funny considering their ocular powers.

How are there so little mangekyo sharingan users? Your most beloved person dying before your eyes doesn't seem like a very big condition for a jutsu that's unknown to most Uchihas.
Edit : looking back at the awekenings we see in naruto they're more painful than just seeing your most beloved person dying, they're all as painful as killing him/her yourself. This all falls like a card castle when you consider sarada but boruto luckily isn't canon.

You could skip the whole sibling route and get Hashirama cells which come with free spamming, zero bleeding eyes and freaking woodstyle

If the Uchiha were more respected to the point where the coup de tat never happened, and the Uchiha were completely open with the Medical Corps and Jutsu Research of the Hidden Leaf, the development of the EMS would have been simplified to a number of professional eye transplants in conjunction with sharingan training. This would have meant that the entire Uchiha Clan would be able to have EMS. That would have made the Hidden Leaf a much greater Military Power!

It’s possible they didn’t know about EMS until Madara went blind and decided his only choice was to take his dead brother’s perfectly good eyes and subconsciously awakened the EMS

Remove the plot, the Uchihas’ population would more than doubled because siblings would be trading their eyes with each other like trading cards. Everyone and their grandmother would have the EMS and taking over Konoha would’ve been a piece of cake for Fugaku.

I always assumed that other Senju just watched and jumped in the screen after Hashirama finally soloed Madara or after Tobirama and Hashirama tag teamed him.
It's a pretty common occurrence in Naruto and other shows that after certain gap in power levels, you'd just get in the way so that platoon would probably just weigh Hashirama down instead of actually helping him.

Now the question of if Sarada will get EMS, especially since she’s proof of the broken the curse. Though if she get 100 healings she might effectively have EMS anyway

Short answer: it doesen't work, itachi said after madara many tried to swap their eyes but few "gained new powers form it"

A reason I thought of was that in universe only Madara and Izuna are named MS users and implied they are the first to awaken these eyes, so what if they didn't know you could swap eyes and instead it was something Izuna thought of on his death bed.
