Love 1923 and all that Harrison and Helen bring to it.

"1923" is definitely moving at a slower pace than "Yellowstone" and "1883", and that has made it hard to stay engaged. but I have enjoyed them all.

1883 is not great -- it's certainly not Lonesome Dove -- but it is very good. 1923 looked great, but almost everything about it is a little "off" -- the writing, storytelling, acting, direction. It's not terrible, but it does feel like Sheridan's strengths -- mainly the grounded nature of his characters and situations -- are waning under the pressure of writing and prepping so many simultaneous shows; what started as "appointment television" is starting to feel like generic period dramas where stars go to ride off into the sunset. But I guess I should expect this when I find Yellowstone branded hats and shirts at the local thrift shop.

I just finished 1923 and after watching it straight after 1883 it was a huge let down. It is not in the same league as 1883 which was a masterpiece. I agree with what you said about Taylor Sheridans writing, which is surprising after the writing of 1883 was brilliant. The only parts that interested me at all were Spencer’s story. Everything that went on in Montana bored the pants off me and I couldn’t get invested in that part of the story at all. The characters were a bit cliche and Ford and Mirren didn’t really have enough to get their teeth in to. For some reason I found the character of Jack the most annoying character I’ve seen and I hope he gets killed off in the next season. I have no idea what the point was to the side story of the Indian girl (Chief Rainwater’s ancestor) even though her story was powerful it had no reason to be in the show as it had no connection to anything. The whole season seemed to meander slowly and go nowhere. I really don’t get the point of it. It’s setting up for the next season but surely that isn’t enough. I didn’t expect it to match 1883 but even so it fell woefully short.

Funny thing I never watched Yellow stone. Finally tried to got maybe 6 episodes into season one and then 1883 came out Decided to watch it . Really liked it. Was watching both simultaneously lol but actually preferred 1883. Well I haven’t moved into season 2 of yellow stone yet, because decided to watch 1923 lol I have enjoyed it all but a few scenes. I really didn’t need or cared for the over the top sex scenes with the prostitutes. I have found in my older ages .. that unless it is completely necessary to move the story forward I find these extra T&A redundant and not needed . I don’t need that to help me understand the kind of sadistic man he is. I just find a lot of shows throw these scenes in at places it really doesn’t need to . It’s like” ohh we need to put something here for our simple minded people. “
Just my opinion.
Still haven’t got back to Season 2 of yellow stone yet .lol

Not for me. Just ridiculous. We were blown away, by just how worse the series continued to get.

Yellowstone is melodramatic.
1923 is 50 shades of grey/an average love story in the early 1900's.
Only 1883 is really worth watching.

P.S. Hellen Mirren is irritating. Almost like Skyler in Breaking Bad.

Sheridan struck gold with Costner and the original show. Everything else so far has been material that I've found myself Fast Forwarding through because it lacks the same good writing and all the characters appear like clones of the first show. I hope there's a good conclusion to Yellowstone season 5, because I'm beginning to expect that will be it for this franchise.
