If you're itchin' to get a band saw and you're on a budget, this isn't a bad saw to start with. There are a lot of things this saw won't do but there's still a lot it can do.

Throat is the distance from the blade to the back of the saw.
Basically the size board you can run through it.

ok now cut top section off, get some angle iron, and convert it to accept 12 -13 inch of material depth. and then buy an 80-82 inch 3 TPI blade and then your cooking with gas as you can mill your own logs then. 🙂
