FELONY & FAITH | Damon West’s Road to RECOVERY

This week's show is quite possibly the most incredible story I’ve ever heard. You are going to be riveted and you will never forget this conversation!

13 years ago to the day that we recorded this interview, my guest was sentenced to life in prison! Yes, life in prison for my guest Damon West.

Damon’s story will make you uncomfortable at times. But ultimately, his story is all about OVERCOMING EXTREME ADVERSITY, TRANSFORMATION, and REDEMPTION.

Do you want to learn how to turn your life around? This interview Is a master class!

At 20, Damon was the starting quarterback at the University of North Texas when he suffered a career-ending injury. A few years later while training to be a stockbroker, Damon got hooked on methamphetamines, and he became the mastermind of a burglary ring to support his addiction.

Eventually, he was arrested and sentenced to 65 years in a Texas maximum security prison.

In prison, Damon got SOBER, went through a SPIRITUAL AWAKENING, and started down his true life’s calling which he continued to build on after his parole more than 7 years later.

Today he is a much sought-after speaker and best-selling author including co-writing “The Coffee Bean: A Simple Lesson to Create Positive Change.” with JON GORDON.

Damon pulls no punches in a series of brutally HONEST stories when sharing his life and the mistakes he’s made.

You’ll hear first-hand exactly what it feels like to be found guilty of major crimes, how he fought to survive and eventually THRIVE in prison, and how Damon turned his time in prison into an OPPORTUNITY.

Be sure to listen to how he used the analogy of being like a COFFEE BEAN (yes, a coffee bean) as a critical part in changing his victim mindset to one of HOPE and redemption.

In one of my favorite parts of this episode, Damon reveals his thoughts about GRATITUDE, his mission to HELP OTHERS, and why RESILIENCE is essential to living your best life.

This week, pay attention to a man who has lived life on the edge in many ways, good and bad.

Damon’s past and present are filled with LESSONS that will make you STOP, THINK, and help you FIGURE OUT how you can lead a better life, too.

Ed, your life is a gift from God. Your personal story, your business development, your books & seminars are inspirational. But, what you do here by sharing these stories is morally aspirational. Thank you.

Wow each week gets better and better. A true must listen with Damon West, absolute🔥🔥🔥. Fear is A liar, fear is not real, fear is perceived, while danger is real and Has to be respected but fear is not real and don’t give into it. You don’t have to win all your fights but you have to fight all your fights and when you lose, you have to make sure you get up. Imagine life is like a pot of boiling water. Anything we put in this pot of boiling water it’s gonna be changed by the pressure and the heat of the boiling water. I’m going to put 3 things in the pot of boiling water and watch how they change. a carrot, an egg, and a coffee bean. If I put a carrot in the boiling water it It goes from being hard and turns soft. If I put an egg in the boiling water it goes from being soft and turns hard. The egg symbolizes your heart if your heart hardens you’re unable to give and Receive love. But if I put a coffee bean in the water it keeps its form and changes the water because it’s power comes from within. Go out there and be a coffee bean. If you ever shut yourself off from people because of differences, You’re going to miss some of the biggest lessons and the best friendships in your life. The other side of your fear is the best version of you. The things that you’re most ashamed of does not disqualify you it actually qualifies you to help someone else. To be the best version of yourself you have to look to your higher power and it needs to be spiritual. Adversity is never as bad as you think it’s gonna be And I’m always way more capable of achieving things than I think I am. Learn to speak the language that the person in front of you speaks. Look at your adversity as an opportunity. Be receptive to the messengers that God puts in front of us. Be unselfish, honest, pure, & loving. I’m going to stop there and I encourage you to listen to the rest because it’s truly amazing. Much Love and Aloha. #EdMylett #MaxOut #KVibe808 #PACmentality

Man the emotion and depth of the lessons here is intense! What a story and a life Damon has crafted after what some would have considered over once getting handed that 65 year sentence!
Today marks 3 years of zero alcohol for me! The fact that this podcast with this message was delivered to me on this date is unreal to me! That is not by chance, God’s plan is being exercised precisely as he has intended it to be 🙏
A favorite quote I took from Damon today is:
“An addict will give up their goals to meet their behavior!
A winner gives up their habits to meet their goals!!
I was once an addict that almost lost everything, and I gave it #OneMore and haven’t looked back! All of these messages and stories that I once thought disqualified me to make an impact, have now been shared, and I see and believe they are wht actually qualifies me to IMPACT lives and change the trajectory for many other people in the world!
Powerful stuff!!!

God Bless you Damon and Ed 🙏❤️

Remarkable person reading this.. It’s going to get better; all it is a season of opportunity to grow and be better than before. Challenging times are meant to strengthen us, not to break us. Success doesn’t define to what happened to us; it is how we choose to deal with our circumstances. The more you grow and develop as an incredible person as you are, the more things will change for the better. Forgive more (for you), be grateful for even the smallest things (we have it way better than someone else), choose love over ego, choose humility over ego (humility is strength), and finally, invest into new skills so that your future self will thank you. Our lives will change forever the more we grow. Be thankful for the challenges for we know something greater is coming. Love you always - Nathalie ✨❤️

Had the opportunity to be on a zoom call with Damon back in 2020 and was blown away by his story. Incredible guest and an even better story!

Wow! Just the message I needed to hear today. I have never been to jail or prison, never did drugs, not an alcoholic and not a perfect person either but I would say the entire message was for me. I couldn't stop listening. God always knows how to speak expressly to his children and He spoke to me clearly today. God is interested turning my mess to become my purpose. "I cannot control the world around me but can control the world within me. We have to die to self to become useful and not use-less".
Thanks brother Ed and blessings to you for this opportunity 🙏🙏

Ed, Thank you. I seriously believe this is the most important podcast you've ever done. I've been motivated/inspired by a podcast before, but I'd never been spiritually moved by a podcast until now. I felt emotion in my HEART. I've been searching for God recently, and I seriously felt a presence while listening to this.

(Backstory) I recently turned off automatic downloads for every podcast show on my phone because of storage. Somehow your show was the only one that didn't, therefore this episode popped up while i was on a run. I was in the process of deleting the download, when i stopped & gave it a listen because you described it as the "most incredible story" you'd ever heard. Thank you for that. This has moved me beyond measure. God works in mysterious ways.

This was a great conversation. I struggled with substance abuse, but I refuse to put myself or anyone else the box of an Addict-alcoholic There's a fundamental issue with identifying ourselves that way. It's damaging to self and others to identify by a thoughts, behavior or belief. Imagine if we were ALL identified by our flaws? It says we are the worst part of us and that's what we'll always be. I'm not who I or others say I am. I am who God says I am. Beautifully created to be uniquely me. My negative patterns were ways I adopted to navigate thru pain of past as I was unable to live in the present.
