Tree Felling with Wedges! Comprehensive How To!

Tree needed wedges to make it fall closer to the road and then pulled out of the woods with a chain! Wedges cannot make a tree fall in the intended direction every time, sometimes a tree is leaning too far in one direction which would require additional force such as a winch or vehicle to pull a tree over. This saved time and effort of physically lifting and carrying each piece that would be far away to the truck. This video gives an understanding of how to properly cut a tree down along with an extra step of utilizing plastic wedges to coax it to the intended lay.

Best video on all the reasons why to use a wedge, cut one inch above/not level to the notched out side. I feel so much wiser and safer. Trees are much smaller but lots of risk of hitting things if I go wrong.

Super informative, my grand-father was an axman in the north (think of halfway north from the south of Canada, that's true north). Back then they used to do everything with axe and saw and got the trees out with horses. I remember when I was a kid he just had massive hands from working hard in the cold during the winter. My father told me about my grand-father once coming back home for supper after getting almost all his tooths removed, not saying much words, not complaining, and going back to work the same evening without any painkillers. These man were tough, I wish I could have learned from him.

As a retired British Columbia faller I can say that I've never seen an undercut that tall before. I've also never seen a faller start wedging with two wedges stacked on top of each other. I've stacked wedges 100s of time after I've driven one or two singles in as far in as I can. In a space as narrow as a chainsaw kerf they have a tendency to spit back out until they are in a ways, especially in winter when the wood is frozen.
