Before wolfing down a kilo of broccoli and washing it down with a quart of green tea...Slow down here and think a bit further: If we are engaging in any kind of hormesis, it's critical that we get the "dosage" right if we want a net good effect, and we also need to look at dosage frequency/possible need for recovery. So, for xenohormesis from plant foods, do we have any good science on these questions? Another thing: We need to understand fully how cooking, soaking, fermenting, etc may destroy-neutralize biochemicals that might be xenohormetic.

He first says they're oxidative and it ramps up our antioxidant reaction then says they're packed with antioxidants... doesn't make sense.

I wish Dr Greger slowed down when he speaks and did not mumble so much. His message would be so much clearer, he should really make an effort to speak more clearly, not everyone is a doctor or as bright as he is. I love the way Dr Barnard speaks, I can never understand 100% what Dr Greger says even though I'm fluent in English so other foreign speakers may find it even more difficult to take in what he says.

Good video, I appreciate the interesting insights, but the name for the video doesn't really make sense. From what I can tell he isn't saying broccoli stresses the body -- he's saying that the broccoli, tea, and/or other plants are experiencing 'stress' and releasing beneficial compounds that we take in in order to relive stress from our body. Unless I somehow interpreted it wrong, but the title makes it confusing. But definitely a good video 👍

I understand this and have heard of it before, but are you telling me that green tea polyphenols, such as EGCG, are pro-oxidants?

You have such a beautiful voice. I particularly like your version of "diabetes." I hear it every time someone says it.

How exactly does broccoli stress green tea?

Health sciences often contain apparent paradoxes. Exercise stresses the body too. But it causes the body to repair itself as well. Too much exercise (or chemical stress) will do permanent damage. Just because a little is good doesn't mean a lot is better. This is why Americans (and the west in general) keep getting more and more unhealthy even though we keep learning more and more about exercise and diet. We take that information and plug it into our "maximize everything" mindset. Balance is everything but that doesn't fit into most people's way of thinking these days.
