Rabbit Wont Feed Her Babies?: The SR Rabbit Update 12-6-16

This is a common concern for new rabbit breeders. They have a first time mom that has a little of rabbits but they never see her taking care of them and assume that she is abandoning her litter. In this video I discuss why that is probably not the case, how you can tell for sure, and a few things you can do if it is the case.

I had that exact concern. First time mama. My very first rabbits.
Never saw her go in her nest for more than 5 seconds.
It's been 48 hours. They're all squirming but I don't want to touch them or disturb them too much.

Our silver fox just had her first litter of 11! She did such a good job making the nest. When i checked on them this morning only some had a big belly so im a little worried. This video put me a little at ease!

My Bunny had 4 baby rabbits and she pulled Alot Of fur, the babies are
her hidey house with a bunch of fur in their, they were just born yesterday
and right now their fine, I havn't picked them up because I'm scared that she
might get scared or angry. I haven't seen her feed her babies but thank you for telling me
this. now I feel so much better! ☺☺☺☺

Hi! So my i was surprised with 5 kits yesterday morning, i didn’t realize my bunny was pregnant. She had them on my bed squeezed in between my pillows. So once the babies were clean, i moved them over to a diy nest box (i used a storage container, cut out a hole, and placed hay with a soft t shirt and her fur pullings). I left them there over night and today they’re still alive and moving. my only concern is, she keeps pulling her fur and taking it to my bed. Im not sure if she thinks her kits are there, but i placed the nest box in her general area and i don’t think she’s going in there. she only fed them once they were on the bed and placed all the fur she had stored in her mouth over the babies. And when i checked the babies, 3/5 had round bellies and 2 of them looked kinda small.

My New Zealand just gave birth three days ago and she’s made a beautiful nest. She only had three and the one born on the wire was gone by the time I noticed. They had a fat belly last time I checked, but today I just went out and they were wrinkly and dehydrated looking. I held momma on my lap and let the babies nurse until they were plumped up. I hope she nurses them because that’s stressful.

Hi. My bunny gave birth a few days ago and i went to check up on the kits and i noticed that they are pretty cold. I also noticed that the momma isn’t really doing a lot for the babies. I don’t have a heating pad or anything to help them warm up other than a furry blanket. I’m scared they’re gonna freeze to death 🥺 Any tips?

But what if you have a rabbit that is not a first time mother that has babies that she did not feed and have no fat bellies and die of starvation? It’s been very hot here and I’m wondering if the heat could have an impact on her care of this litter.

Praying my momma rabbit is taking care of her kits... she had them yesterday so I'm not sure... this is our first litter with this momma... but I think this is her 3rd or 4th litter. I'm still concerned. She didn't pull fur, maybe too hot?
So thankful for these videos!
God bless!

Had 11 angora rabbit kits but 8 died at the first day. I think they all look too small and all born prematurely. Three are still alive but I doubt they'll make it alive tomorrow. :( so sad.

The best way for people to see if babies are getting fed :

. Look at there belly, there skin is quite thin you should see a white sack full of milk in the belly

Compare the size normally if some are noticeably smaller they might not be getting as much or no milk

If all else fails use kitten milk and bottle feed 😘
but everything this man said is right so don’t touch to much unless necessary xx

Hi my bunny have 7 babies 3 days ago but she does not feed them their bellies are flat. What I do is rub her down on my lap and allow 4 to suck then the other 3 it last for about an hour until their bellies get fat.the good thing is that I am home to take of them due to covid. Bless you.

Thanks so much this was my first time breeding a rabbit. She pulled a lot of fur but I never saw her go into the nest. The babies are three days old and still alive so I guess they're fine!!

My rabbit won't nurse or feed her babies. And it seemed like she just kept stepping on them. However i separated them fr their mother. I think what i did was wrong. I really need help and I don't know where to find KMR or goats milk

Two of my does littered seven apiece on the wire yesterday (5th Sept. 2022) even though I had provided a litter box days before their due dates. Luckily I caught the first doe in the process and was able to save all seven kits into their box as they came along. I however lost one of the second doe's set but saved six cold and barely active kits. I went to check this morning and thankfully they are all still alive, but non of the moms had gone in to feed her babies. It is pass 16 hrs now since these babies were born and i was beginning to get worried, but after watching your video, I guess I will give us all a little more time and see. Non of the moms pulled fur so right after this message, I'm going to pull some off myself. I am a new farmer in Ghana, Africa.
(The profile pix is deceptive, it is my daughter's handy work. I am a 53 year old man.)
