I started playing Anomaly not long ago, and went into the Stalker world more or less blind. What I did know did not prepare me for Red Forest.

I walked in, on a mission to hunt Monolith soldiers. I was alone and it was night, I figured my NVGs would make up for it. I got to the encampment, killed the Monolith soldiers at the gate, looted them, and started sorting my inventory. Easy enough, the job's done, I start my journey back as I walk along the curved road north. However, somethings wrong, I hear slow footsteps over my left shoulder. I stop, doing a 360 trying to find it, hoping it's just some Loner I didn't see.

No one is around, my NVGs let me see clearly even at night and I don't see a thing. I keep going, thinking I just heard nothing, only to hear the same slow steps over my right shoulder. again, I stop, walking backward as I try and find this mutant or anomaly following me. It's not a bloodsucker, it would've attacked me by now. I don't think it's a poltergeist, I haven't had anything thrown at me and my screen hasn't tinted, though it's a possibility. The steps are at least 3 to 5 meters behind me, and it's at this point as I continue walking I start freaking out.

I can still hear the steps behind me, and I break, start sprinting away and somehow I can still hear the walking. I frantically go to exit towards Jupiter.

To this day, nothing good has ever happened to me in Red Forest. Fuck that place.

My first experience with red forest happened when I was messing around in Anomaly.
The moment I entered through the tunnel leading out from Limansk an emission had struck, and I was engaged in a fierce battle with monolith forces during the ignition on the bridge. After I had wiped out their squad the emission faded, and sundown started approaching fast. I entered red forest with my one Duty companion, and we were tasked with scanning an anamalous field. So I went about my business, encountering no stalkers or mutants as I pushed deeper into the woods. During me taking scans of an anomalous field, my partner's icon lit up red and he ran far north. I started scanning for an artefact after so I didn't pay any mind. Suddenly however his health bar rapidly declined and he died. Curious, I headed north to find his body, but what I was greeted with was even more terrifying. Absolutely nothing. No body, no stalkers, no mutants. I couldn't find a single trace of life or my companion anywhere. As nightfall started to hit I got increasingly terrified that I couldn't find something else. The living, breathing zone rapidly felt very sinister and evil. I ran towards army warehouses as fast as I could, not encountering a single mutant or human along the way there; I hadn't seen any since the first monolith scuffle. I have not gone there since, and I avoid any encounter with the place that I can.

No matter what game or mod, the Red forest the place I dread going to the most, while playing anomaly i got 2 contracts in the forest, to kill a high rank monolith target near the old mine, the second mission to place a scanner in the east. Went in full of ammo, medpacks and 4 veteran stalkers with powerful loadouts, by the time I left I only had one of the guys alive but he got killed as we were on the road back to the warehouses by a chimera. That place is a nightmare
