Will Ferrell and Harper Steele Talk About Their Road-Trip Doc ‘Will & Harper’

Ferrell and Steele have know each other since their days at Saturday Night Live, and in the years after leaving SNL they’ve only become closer friends and collaborators. It’s a friendship that entered a new chapter when Steele recently transitioned, a journey they navigated with a roadtrip across the country, which they documented in film “Will & Harper.” The two old friends stopped by the IndieWire Studio, presented Dropbox, to talk why they decided to make the documentary, which premiered at Sundance to rave reviews and two standing ovations.

I’ve watched every one of these interviews because i’m excited for this wholesome film. One thing that struck me is that this project is a gift and an act of love to cis people in our lives. Just saw this movie, and I loved it ❤ very heartwarming and beautifully directed. As a mom of trans young adult, this was relatable and road tripping, I will work towards being an advocate for family bathrooms, across the nation, too many restrooms that are gender labeled, I was always terrified of my trans child to be alone in bathroom without me protecting them from haters and bullies, and better medical care for LGBTQ in deep red states.

Wow! What a great interview… What a great conversation to be able to witness… That the two of them even had the insight to ask themselves and each other if they were exploiting each other is very touching and tender and emotionally intelligent. Can’t wait to see the movie!
