"I was standing by the bedside
Where my fevered mother lay
When she called me close beside her
And these words I heard her say

I’ve just seen the rock of ages
Jacob’s ladder hanging down
I’ve just crossed the river of Jordan
Now, at last, I’m homeward bound

As we gathered all around her
Tears began to fill our eyes
Then she called me close beside her
And whispered softly her good-bye

High breeze blowing cross the mountain
Where forever she will lay
There she’ll rest beside the mountain
There she’ll sleep beneath the clay"

OMG!! This song, , , Dealing with a left over hangover at a young STUPID age, , then forced to beg My Lord, for the strength to sing it, while facing a young father of a 5-6 year old Son, and the totally destroyed heart of that husband and his son;, , , WOKE ME TO SUFFERING that day. I don't sing at funerals any longer. This broke me! A flesh much less stained than mine, must carry such a burden. I was crushed, and ashamed, that day. Those poor people were laying to rest a 20? YEAR OLD, BEAUTIFUL MOTHER, AND WIFE! I had to close my eyes, and try to escape this reality, just to sing these words. Powerful Song! PRAYERS TO ALL THAT ARE SUFFERING!

This was originally written by my great uncle John Brenton Preston. Beautiful rendition of our family song. 👏👏👏

What a great performance. Many thanks for posting this. I have just subscribed to your channel (after hearing Pee Wee Crayton's 'Do Unto Others').
