While I did wait for Daniel's response and for more evidence, admittedly, I thought it would take a lot more than what it did for Naomi's claims to be successfully combated. The only things holding me back from fully believing it is that I'm innately cautious of allegations being handled online and not with the law, and the fact that Naomi clearly wanted to illicit an emotional response with that "panic attack." I never felt bad watching her cry, and I was wondering if I was an asshole lol. The booktuber who did the most damage imo is Merphy. That woman has known Daniel personally for roughly six years. So when I saw her post, I thought, "Damn, there must really be something to this." However, hers is the only apology video that seems sincere, which doesn't change the fact that she did what she did, of course. People are gonna be pissed off about this situation for a while, and I can't wait for the first booktuber to cry "booktube is a toxic space rn" lol.

Jackson Dickert is a worm, though.

I was not impressed to see the reactions of a lot of people in the booktube community. These are people that make a living out of a reputation for an interest in an alternative media, who in many instances critique and analyse themes and literary value, who portray themselves as beyond the mainstream because of their hobby. And, as it turns out they are just more of the same. Worse even, because thanks to mainstream media, we now know that false accusations are relatively common and have grave repercussions and they still chose to go down that route

Despite my issues with Daniel Greene, my reaction to allegations was that it was bloody mess and making a statement either way would be a mistake. I agree with about King having legal consequences for her actions, though I doubt it will be more than a civil matter.

I think this has been a huge SHOW, that the infamous Naomi King should be made to pay for the consequences of what she's done, and that a lot, a lot, a LOT of people has made fools of themselves and shown that reading or loving books does NOTHING for their intelligence, their COMMON SENSE, or their critical thinking skills. So many people have shown their true colors in just the last few days! I'm glad for that, so people can stop thinking that the "Booktube community" is such a special, lovely, welcoming, smart, reflective, insightful place... When it's full of judgemental, biased, hot-headed, sheep-minded, nosy idiots just like any other social media platform. -_-

Thank you. You hit every point my husband and I discussed yesterday. We’ve had our share of people eager to ruin our marriage, and all of this hit a chord.

It’s interesting to me that the booktubers I expected to be the worst said nothing, while Daniels colab partners dumped him the fastest. (To be fair, Merphy Napier was dealing with a serious flood right after she disavowed him, yet she took the time to post an apology as soon as she could.)

Personally, I hope Daniel and his Partner get their day in court, and come back stronger for it. The concern I had that he would be ruined beyond recovery still looms, there is nothing worse than discovering who your friends are and knowing it might be a bad idea to accept their apologies. Nothing is ever the same once trust is broken.

Everyone should take your advice at heart! In My Opionion way too many people tend to love drama and a good old witchhunt and will assume the worst.
Accusations of this magnitude belong in a court room, never in an internet video! At worst a victim is facing legal actions for defamation, instead of having the offender prosecuted.

"And your apology videos are hilarious"... omg so true. But also, pathetic, inadequate, fake, and should have not been needed (ie their first videos/comments shouldn't have been made in the first place).

there are so few spaces online that aren't toxic or full of BS drama. i hope this gets resolved soon and be dealt with the appropriate legal action. i'm more inclined to believe one way, but i do hope that whatever the truth is that it gets exposed to broad daylight.

I agree 100%. I'm not surprised that so many people jumped to conclusions when this all started because so many like to jump to conclusions before all the information is out there and just like to feed off the drama. This is why I wait until there's more information before jumping to any conclusions.

I definitely agree that Naomi needs to held accountable over this. As you said, false accusations cost lives and as a lot of people pointed out, hurts those who have been affected by assault.

The whole thing leaves a nasty taste. I, like you mentioned in your last vid, grew out of his videos some time ago. For other reasons than your story about the YT event i was increasingly thinking that his channel and his discord were not for me. But, when i first heard Naomi's account, i believed her. It sounded genuine and she had receipts. Most of all, and what makes the lies so much worse imo, women as a whole tend to be ignored or not believed when these things happen. She appeared so strong to account these experiences... I did not watch the second vid and havent yet watched Daniel's reponse. I have not had the brain space for the details, but i have heard enough from others to be extremely sad that she has tried this and a little disgusted by his behaviour (I can not condone adultery) but if his partner has elected to stay with him, that is their choice and their battle to accept. The general reponse from booktuber's has been interesting to see. I can understand that some felt pressure to respond as a lot of them got many messages from their audience demanding it but i think what needs to be taken from this is responding too quicky can mean you have not got all the info. Responding fast is not always the best choice.

I don't care for DG. He's undoubtedly a cheating, sleeze bag. But I don't like the moralizing, finger wagging either. I don't believe DG is a sexual assaulter. Doesn't matter how much I dislike his content, he didn't do what he's been accused of.

I admit that I was ready to believe King at first, simply because Daniel had nothing and she came with “receipts.” A lot of actual rapists write off their crimes as “affairs” to downplay them. It fit a pattern and it looked suspicious in Naomi’s favor.

I can’t exactly blame the content creators who were his friends for reacting the way they did. What King did was extremely gross and manipulative in multiple ways and SA is a touchy subject. No one wants to dismiss or ignore an allegation after witnessing an alleged victim cry and panic on screen.

Audiences are also vicious and demand immediate responses. We are just coming off the Neil Gaiman debacle, so the idea of a wholesome writer being a vile sex pest is fresh in everyone’s minds. It was unwise for people to jump the gun, but I can imagine their thought process.

People are too afraid of being canceled themselves to even take a moment to think..all of the "silence-is acceptance" nonsense. No one wants to make themselves uncomfortable for a moment- and maybe take a bit of "backlash" themselves-- to give a situation time to play out before forming an actual opinion and speaking to it.
That said: In a perfect world, Danial would get damages for every response video that came out, as well as every time the original video was sent to an author or to one of his sponsors. Naoimi's original video, with its five-minute freakout, was so obviously performative.
People would have seen right through it if they weren't too afraid to even consider the idea that someone might lie about such a serious situation.

There where obvious holes in her story and a lot of contradictions. It was about 10pm the day after she uploaded the C&D video. I came away from it with doubts, concerns, and questions. When I woke up and saw every booktuber with a "guilty till proven innocent" take I was like, " they can read and analyze a book, but not a couple of videos where stuff didn't add up and she contradicted herself a lot.

It was poor judgement call on many booktubers.

Yesterday, I did a bit of a dive into "the situation."
First, thank you for clarifying the context of no mentioning of current stuff in video.... I thought, "Am I missing something. Am I just that dense?" I'm a Patron, not a channel member, so I was a little confused. I've been preoccupied with my new fur friend, and actually reading the books and stuff... Most of the time, I'm not exactly tuned into the community as others, so I do miss a lot of the drama that unfolds... plus, I prefer to observe and keep most of my thoughts to myself. But when I opened my tube app...
The initial reactions from other creators were popping up in my feed, and I got curious... like the watching of a train wreck curiosity... I watched the "I got a Cease and desist letter"... and here's what happened... as soon as I heard the words, "I don't want this to blow up... **sniffle snuffle**..." omg, words spoken while doing the thing guaranteed to ignight the explosion... huge bright red flag... the next video that YT blocked for content was even more damning and... not Oscar winning imo... and that apology video she as one of those survivors of SA, I can honestly say where I feel she can stick it...🤬
I also saw DG's response and awaited more information, which we got... meanwhile, followers were losing their 💩... literally canceling and unsubscribing in mass. As an observer, I was a mix of intrigued, concerned, disgusted, and just wow... just wow...
Although, I don't watch his content as often these days, I can't help but be concerned for his mental health as well as his partners.
I too, really hope DG continues to go forward with the lawsuit. Perhaps it will be a deterrent for others.

People don't seem to get that takjng accusations seriously and taking them uncritically are two different things.

I don't like making assumptions unless I have enough evidence to substantiate anything I saw. I don't chase the algo or trends unless it happens to genuinely interest me.

Most people who call themselves content creators/social media influencers do both of these things. They have to be the first to get their reaction out their since the early bird gets the most attention.

It sucks.

I remained neutral lol. As i like to see the full story over emotions. I had a bad feeling there was more to this. Yes i was shocked, and wondered who could be next - seeing there is a current trend for some people to make false allegations to cancel others. Of course im not saying all are false.
I think and there could be research studies on this if a woman is a victim there is a stronger knee jerk responses (throw feminine stereotypes into the mix) compared to if it was a man who was the victim. I mean that attitude may of shifted slightly in recent times due to more education and awareness.
