In recent American history, the American political parties have fractured. Factions have developed in the political parties. What happened and why?

Getting a lot of comments saying that Harris and O’Rourke are not progressives. Fair argument. However, both are reliably farther to the left than Biden in terms of healthcare, immigration, and other issues such as Harris’ reparations. The two may not be defined as progressives by Sanders/Warren supporters, and Harris may not have an entirely “progressive” track record, but for the simple purposes of this video they illustrate examples of Democrats farther left than Biden, Clinton, Obama, etc. Yang and Gabbard are perhaps better examples of progressives.

Modern politics are too complex for a two party system. Politics are not black and white, so why should everything be a dichotomy? Unfortunately, the American voting system will always result in a two party system and since the two parties have no interest in allowing others to butt in, they won't change the system. It's pretty much impossible to escape from this conundrum without a huge political upset in the country.

I'm very glad that the political landscape is changing. These two parties are now being open to change. The two strong parties are now being open to change and hopefully there will be parties that have the competence to actually run this country. The whig party seems to be gone from the days of lincoln and the republican party rising. I am center left just to identify my political standpoint.

I was a #Nevertrumper until around 2018. I thought he was just going to be a liberal populist rather than an actual conservative. He's not exactly a conservative, but he's a lot better than I thought.
