In Puerto Rico they have a similar game called "Gallitos" (Lil roosters) which is played using carob seeds tied to strings. The game takes place on the floor. One player puts their gallito on the floor, while the other player tries to hit it with their own. They take turns switching from attacking to defending/receiving, until one of the "gallitos" break.
