The term "Tilt" is in reference to old pinball machines - in order to ensure you didn't forcefully rotate the machine itself to get the ball where you want it(either out of strategy or anger), the machines had sensors that could detect that and halt gameplay - a light would flare up to show this, and the light had the text "Tilt" on it.

I learned this term from getting into chess. Becoming aware that I'm tilting, with the immediate numeric evidence of my rating going down and my accuracy decreasing in each game, is the reason chess has trained me to have better emotional self-awareness than I've ever had before in my life. It's wild how therapeutic and useful it's been. I wish the idea of "tilt" were more universal vocabulary!

This happens to so many people, and it’s really difficult to see, because we do it so often!

It needs to be normalized to stop playing games when tilting starts infiltrating.

This is why I prefer single player games. You’ll never catch me tilted and not having fun at hour 12 of Minecraft.

I actually think this is only half true, in a competitive setting i fully agree! But if you're just playing some casual game and just having fun, exploring a unique world, I can for a fact i still do have fun.

If you're not having fun 7 hours in, you're playing the wrong game.

This really depends on the game, the more competitive or challenge oriented the game is I would agree, but when it comes to more open world or sandbox type games I would say that on average the player is still enjoying the experience

From what I understand of the Yips i wouldnt put it as the same thing as tilting. Your already in your own head when you have the Yips and flat out cant hit a ball or a shot for a long period of time. Tilting seems to be more short term where you start out fine things go south and your play declines but it doesnt generally carry over to the next day and you can untilt yourself if you really try.

I can play 12 hours of TW3 with a big smile on my face all the way through.

I mean, If i am playing 7 hours stright- I am most defenitly enjoying it. Simply because, usually I cannot play a single game for more than maybe like 2 hours, if even that. I have only played for that long 3 times (Genshin impact, Valheim and Terraria), all three times I had a blast! Like in Valheim, I was just sitting and chilling, building on my base, exploring the ocean with my friend. It was so much fun even 10 hours in!

I can say for myself that I usually don't play for 12 hours. 8 hours is a record and even that happens very rarely. I think the thing he is talking about can also happen while watching something for a long time

Gaming has such great metaphors for normal life.

I think you wont ever see me playing when I'm not having fun. If I am playing, I am having fun.

I think this also applies to stuff like drawing and other hobby-ish things and it should be talked about more frfr

Similarly to "choking" but choking happens anytime

I can't even physically play for more than 3 hours without getting headaches and stuff. I feel like binge gamers ignore these types of pain while gaming.
