It's funny that the stepsisters were the ones who got punished, but what about the stepmother? She was the one who started it all.

Wait until you hear the Vietnamese version where Cinderella killed her sisters, cooked them into a kind of chilly meat sauce, and then invited her stepmother over for dinner.

The stepmother died of heart attack after finding her daughter skulls in the sauce jar.

There's also a version where the stepmother cuts off parts of the stepsisters feet to fit the slippers. For once, that's a really dumb idea, and then, it's probably a death sentence, depending on when the story is set up. Before the discovery of antibiotics it certainly is.

When I was 7 years old my mom accidentally gave me a book of classic fairy tales, because I was a really advanced reader and read all the time, well I remember the version where the sisters eyes are plucked out by birds, as well as a version of the little mermaid where she ends herself, and lots of other stories that ended with the evil person either being forced to dance in red hot iron shoes until she died, or thrown into a barrel full of nails and dragged behind horses until they died...it led to me having a very interesting view on the Disney stories as I got a couple years older 😅

Well for Disney there is the Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep version in which Lady Tremaine along with her daughters summon a boss called the Cursed Coach to kill Cinderella. It throws pumpkin bombs at Cinderella but the character you play as, Aqua, somehow shields her from any harm. One of these bombs happen to land exploding right in front of Tremaine and the step sisters where off camera they can be heard screaming as a blast is seen rising to the sky. It pretty much left me thinking, "Oh my god, did they just die?"

I remember reading an old german rendition of the tale. Cinderella in that story had proclien skin and her step sisters were jealous since it caught the princes attention. So they died trying to lighten there skin color in a bath of boiling oil. They were there own demise.

Why is everyone so bloodthirsty? No one mentioned the French version, in which Cindy is very pleasant to her stepsisters at the ball's supper, and later on the sisters recognize Cindy as the beautiful lady at the ball; and, throwing themselves at her feet, beg for

forgiveness. Cindy forgives them, and after the wedding; moves the sisters into the palace, and marries them the same day to two lords of the court. This version is my favorite of the stories .

There is also a version in Vietnam. We have the name "Tấm Cám". Tấm is the older sister, daughter of the first wife and Cám is the younger sister, daughter of the concubine. The story have similar plot, but in the end after Tấm become queen. She behead her sister, using her body to make dish inside a pot and put a head in the bottom. Then Tấm offers it to the mother as a gift. The mother eat half of the dish, then she realises a bunch of hair inside. She then break the pot, and shock to death after see a head of her daughter.

To me the stepsisters are as much a victim as Cindy, they just followed their b*tch mother’s example and never learned compassion or consequence, in the Disney-version one did find love and I am happy that she did.

What about the one where they’re forced to dance to death?

They need to make the Grimm versions into movies.

If you like alt-stories, there's a children's story called Cinder Edna where the heroine is Cinderella's neighbor in the same situation, but she has a part-time job cleaning bird cages and puts a dress on lay-away.

HIGHLY recommended.

Yes, the Rogers and Hammerstein televised play version is squeaky clean, but it's my favorite. Nothing really bad happens at the end. We see Cinderella and the Prince riding horses together as husband and wife followed by the royal entourage and, curiously enough, the stepmother and stepsisters!

It does pay to be courteous and nice to people, because coattails are legitimate ways to hang on in life. Politicians do it all the time when downballot candidates the same party as the President elect ride their influence and get into office by association.

In the Gebrüder Grimm version the Step Mother makes them both carve off pieces of their feet in an attempt to fit into the shoe, and the doves coo, "there is blood in the shoe, there is blood in the shoe" Then the birds peck their eyes out.

Your favorite version of the story, and the best part…🤯 It’s too bad Disney couldn’t use that version?
I think you are the most notorious villain whoever told the stories. 😵‍💫😆

The ones I heard growing up where the eyes being plucked out by birds, and the stepsisters cutting parts of their foot off to fit the shoe. I’m Scandinavian, so obviously the German and the Scandinavian version are most popular here
