When former National Security Advisor John Bolton voted for Donald Trump in 2016 he decided to roll the dice on an unknown instead of backing a Democrat. Amb. Bolton made a similar gamble when he joined the Trump administration thinking he could help guide what he knew was a problematic approach to foreign policy. His new book "The Room Where It Happened" is out now. #StephenAtHome #JohnBolton #BoltonBook

I love Colbert's boldness and brevity. He's not afraid to ask questions that might piss off the other person.

A comedian asks more pertinent questions than any journalist I have heard, amazingly

My apologies, Stephen. I admit I had a smidgen of doubt yesterday when you said you were interviewing Bolton; I should have known better and assumed you'd hold his feet to the fire. Good job and thank you!

"I didn't speak up sooner because I didn't have a book deal yet for some cash. I'm still as morally corrupt as when I voted for Trump. I'm willing to get roasted a bit by you to sell more books. Cash is what's important here Stephen" This is what I heard.

I don’t watch as many interviews with Stephen, I’ve never seen him get so harsh with somebody. He’s honest and to the point even when frustrated. And with a wonderful vocabulary too, I hadn’t heard “callow” in years.

Aww, Bolton felt insulted by being called naive.
Stephen was way more polite than Bolton deserved.

"Did you think Chaos was a ladder you could climb?" Great question.

Just because he is speaking against trump does not make this guy a good man, do not be mistaken.

Stephen: This is a brilliant point you did: „!what could be worse in a democratic leader than betraying your own country to foreign dictatorships....?

Really enjoying the shade that Stephen is bringing to the conversation.

Stephen is so underrated for his political interviewing skills - ever since Colbert Report, his demeanor, fairness, and humility disarm his subject and let him build up to the tough questions without shutting them down. Please book him more political interviewees!

"What could be worse in Hillary Clinton's or Joe Biden's philosophy than betraying your country to a hostile foreign leader?" And yet we had to wait for a late-night comedian to ask.

Unlike the ridiculous news reporters, Stephen Colbert actually held this guy’s feet to the fire for once. Thank you Stephen!

Well played Sir.

This guy is just another grifter. If he cared, he would have testified when his country needed him.

Oh Mr Bolton, calling you naive was probably the nicest thing he could have called you.

"Did you think chaos was a ladder?" "The book is full of shocking revelations that shouldn't have been shocking at all." Whew - Colbert went IN.

"You've really insulted me by calling me naive."

Well it's that or complicit. Pick one.

How is it late night shows are still asking harder hitting questions than news channels?
