IIRC, during the first episode, the police need to get a tissue analysis from a corpse and are waiting on a forensics team. DET John Kennex's android partner Dorian says "no need", picks up a syringe, sticks it into the corpse, draws a sample -- then sticks it in his own neck (because he has built-in forensics).
