I am from the UK and have seen square dancing in Texas and line dancing in Kentucky.

Genuine question, when people are line dancing, have they learned a specific set of steps for each song or is there just a standard set of dances? I know in square dancing there is a caller but line dancing doesn't seem to work that way. The line dancing in Kentucky was in a club and there were a lot of very serious people taking it very seriously, so I think I saw a fairly good standard. I didn't get how they all knew how to dance the same way and there were about 50 - 60 people on the floor.

We have traditional Morris dancers in the UK which is traditional country dancing style usually performed mainly by men but they learn each dance and is similar to a square dance.
