in the video on the second trial it seems he went before the actual start or is the sound/lights off? At 1:03 they were already moving before the starting bell thought the green light was lit so maybe just sound was off?

How do the rules work? In most sports you aren't allowed to jump the gun. Is it a handicap event where the climber on the right can start 0.38 seconds before the guy on the left who has to wait for the buzzer?
