In our latest Inspired to Make video series, we take you behind scenes at Offerman Woodshop, a small wood collective led by Emmy award-winning actor, writer and woodworker Nick Offerman.
Over the course of four videos, we explore the craftsmanship and personal journeys of the makers it supports along with its relationship with Would Works, a non-profit social enterprise that employs and trains people experiencing homelessness in the craft of woodworking.
In the first video, Nick Offerman and OWS artisan Sarah tell the backstory of Offerman Woodshop and showcase some noteworthy projects.
The next video will be available April 14, with the remaining videos released April 21 and 28.

I started with wood as a young lad. Then I morphed into a metal guy, this is the fault of Jesse James. I started with sheet metal and automotive, now I blacksmith. Love, love, love making stuff with fire, anvil and hammer. It is empowering to take one of the worlds hardest substances and shape it with your will and fire.
Society is a farce. Be a Maker, you will respect yourself in the morning.

I want a tour of those bookshelves... A library inside of a shop is such a neat idea and a great way of keeping relevant info close

The whole "Inspired to Make" series on the Lee Valley website looks great. Really nice to see a company that is so inclusive.

This is genuinely my ideal workspace and philosophy. I have a difficult conundrum with production vs. quality. At this time, I am unable to sacrifice quality for quantity. From what I have read from Nick in his excellent book, and seen from this video and others, I am grateful to know there are others who seem to put the quality of the product before the quantity.

Am I the only one who thought that large round table with the brass lazy Susan reminded me of the round desk Ron was forced to have?

When we go to Japan House at the University of see the cherry blossoms in Spring, we see (and sometimes sit on) the bench he made there to commemorate a sensei.

Wouldn't you just use Cardboard to build the model

This is some low end woodworking for the amount of people and money involved. Seriously though

No chance this shop produces enough work to stay alive without his fame and $ backing. This is what you call a vanity project. Better than most vanity projects.
