Telefon is a really great movie. One of Charles Bronson's best.

I remember this as the in-flight movie on one of my first overseas trips as a child during the '70s, a Japan Airlines from San Francisco to Tokyo.

One of those rare thrillers where the KGB is depicted in a positive, heroic light rather than the stereotypical evil spy types. It helped to have Charles Bronson in the part of the KGB major, for sure

Fun fact: The casting of Charles Bronson in this film is genius as he is Lithuanian by blood and can speak Russian and Lithuanian before he learned how to speak English.

P. S his original name was Buchinski he took the name Bronson after Steve McQueen convinced him to name himself after an LA street of the same name

I did see this once and it was very good. I can't say why i haven't revisited this one over the years as I've done with Star Wars and Smokey and the Bandit, both from '77.

There was a big marketing push for Telefon that started in late-'77 as it was hoped that moviegoers would perceive it as a 'Christmas Movie'. Personally, I believe they succeeded in that since anytime I've thought of this movie over the years I instantly think of that Christmas Season of 1977; the marketing seems to have worked well on me.

"The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep. And miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep. Remember. Miles to go before I sleep".

Drive-in movie memories here. Bronson was one of the badasses of the 70's. When this came out, they brought back Death Wish as the second feature. While most people probably remember Lee Remick from her younger days, I like her more here (41 at the time of filming)

The concept of "sleeper cells" was ahead of it's time.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie. The story is quite out there, yet it manages to be entertaining. Although I’m fond of the action films Bronson starred in during the '80s, I believe his collaborations with renowned action directors in the '70s—like Peter Hunt, known for his Bond films, Richard Fleischer, Walter Hill, and Don Siegel—resulted in superior work, as evidenced in this film.

Love all Charles Bronson movies. I remember in the 60s he got his opportunity to shine on Hollywood on GUNSMOKE TV SHOW-Western. He did great. Great sense of humor. I am not bragging because it is actually embarrassing but, I worked on Gunsmoke at age 9. Stand-In Blocking for Cameras and Scene set up for Kurt Russell. Age 13. Kurt played PACKEY KERLIN. A runaway teen from a Farm. Headed for DODGE CITY. His mother worked in a Saloon in the show as a prostitute but, was cut up badly and became an alcoholic. As kids this was a difficult story to try and UNDERSTAND. We were Santa Monica, Malibu beach kids. Embarrassing, why? Because I had MY OPPORTUNITY to look good and be an actor and complained all day about 'Missing GREAT WAVES at the Beach and it being very Hot in the desert. lol Yes, very stupid. As kids we just don't understand how MS POLIFRONI, CASTING DIRECTOR could give us a wonderful life in the acting world. She was so Kind to me. I blew it. you all for the memories. After I retired from the Food Industry, worldwide marketing, Knorr Swiss, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and US Army, NATO I did re-enter the Acting world NEWSROOM, NCIS, MIKE AND MOLLY. COMMUNITY. Jersey Boys. Danny Collins, Al Pacino 'TRAILER' where I was Featured. 67 TV/Film/Modeling gigs but, in my late 50;s. YOU CANNOT GET FAMOUS AT THIS AGE. lol Sadly. It would have been fun! For you KIDS OUT THERE, . Start Young. Study your Craft. Focus. If it is NOT a Passion DO NOT DO IT. It can be cruel and unforgiving. Many drug addicts and alcoholics in the business 'Killing emotional pain'. Using due to Mental illness and Addictions. Very tough business. Travel, Study, demands beyond belief. Ego's. Selfishness. It comes with the good too if YOU are a Pro. Good luck guys and gals. Break a leg. Bless you, jh/gf Malibu, California. Milano, Italy (retired)

*Telefon (1977) helps to explain why torture (e.g., water boarding) doesn't work: "Sleepers" don't know anything useful! They don't even know that they're "sleepers, * or how or when or why or where they became "sleepers." *(E.g., Sirhan Sirhan* at LA's Ambassador Hotel in 1968).*.
