As long as the 2 plays og games, it’s all good. Don’t need the old hardware to run the new stuff

Nintendo's not being hard-headed, they're sticking to their culture and principals. Their IP is the most valuable in gaming, and it drives console sales. Nintendo and Apple have similar DNA in their culture.

Nintendo aren't the type of company to support the old system for long
You're gonna get Nintendo games on switch 1 after the 2 is out but I feel most cross gen games are gonna be third parties not wanting to drop the 130M+ install base

Nintendo going multiplatform would be a death sentence for the company.

Sony going digital and multiplatform makes them closer to a PC. They are pushing customers more and more to leave consoles and buy a PC where the games are potentially much cheaper

Every company needs to differentiate to succeed. You don’t see Burger King selling Big Mac’s for a reason

Here is it how it is gonna happen.

- All games announced for Switch will come to Switch like MP4 and Pokemon ZA.
- Any big game will be 100% Switch 2 exclusive like Mario, Smash, Mario Kart, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem.
- There is a slight chance next main like pokemon game might be Switch game depending on when it comes.
- Next couple of years smaller gamecube/wii/3ds/ds ports remasters might still come to Switch.
- NSO games for existing systems will continue to come Switch.

Tbh Nintendo is the last company to go third party with their exclusives, I don't even know why they asked the question.
Sony and Microsft already lost their exclusivity meaning.

Exclusives are Nintendo’s $1.50 hotdogs, even if they’d make more money releasing their games all over, releasing games to their console creates brand loyalty bringing more potential customers in for all the 3rd party companies that release games on their console, but the difference between exclusive Nintendo titles and Costco’s $1.50 dog is Nintendo’s games actually do make them a profit,

the value of console exclusivity is sometimes far greater than releasing your game all over, also polishing a game for less hardware allows for a more polished product, let’s not forget plenty of PC games even with limitless potential still come out horribly messy.

I have a feeling we’re gonna have a very similar situation to the 3DS in 2017 through 2018.

Lots of small ports and remasters that can give switch 1 owners something to play, while all the brand new games that aren’t Prime 4 or Z-A will be switch 2 exclusive.

The only difference is they have a bit of a better situation this time around, since all of those switch 1 ports and remasters will also pad out the release window for early adopters of switch 2 instead of being on a separate platform.

I remember a huge point of contention around that time was some people saying “why are these games not releasing on the switch?”

But it seems like they’ve kinda solved that issue now since the switch 2 is backwards compatible.

Exclusives are not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination. The only company claiming this is the only company actively going third party because they overspent on acquisitions and forgot to give consumers a reason to buy their platform and join their ecosystem; games. Sony and Nintendo haven't failed to do this and their platforms are thriving even when their experience a lull in the release schedule. It's on the platform creator to give consumers a reason to buy it and at the end of the day we buy consoles for games.

It's insane that one of the richest companies in the world cried that consumers weren't buying their platform while they were releasing half-assed games and can't seem to figure out anything beyond Gears of War and Forza arguing that exclusives are bad... and people bought into this. Microsoft tried to buy success and it didn't work so now they have to go third party because they've done so much damage to the Xbox platform over multiple generations that consumers learned they aren't missing anything by skipping Xbox.

I wonder why people think Nintendo will do a lot of cross-gen at all. They basically haven't done that for any of their generations, the only notable times they had cross-gen releases were with Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild. When a new console launches it gets it's own games from Nintendo, and the previous console may get a few more of it's own games as well until they stop supporting it. I wouldn't expect MP4 to have a Switch 2 SKU for example, it's going to get it's normal Switch release and it'll just play a little better on Switch 2. The PS4/PS5 stuff really made people believe that cross-gen releases are just an expected thing.

It sounds like Nintendo will have a shorter overlap period for cross gen compared to the clowns at Sony. New hardware should have exclusive software that takes advantage of it.

With the likely power difference, cross-gen would be a big limitation for most flagship titles. I think it'll be most common for cross-gen games to essentially be switch 1 games with day one switch 2 enhancements, rather than 'impossible ports'.

Exclusives are how platforms compete. It’s not unique to the video game market. Competition is good for consumers, so exclusives are good for consumers.

I'm more worried about being able to buy the fking thing in the stores rather than crossgen sht. If you can't find the system to buy it at retail in the first year, crossgen is a moot point

i mean, Donkey Kong Country 3 (for the SNES) released after the N64 came out...in fact, Wrinkly Kong PLAYS an N64 every so often, when you visit her, as a little easter egg...so id expect at least a handful of "Switch 1" games after the launch of Switch 2...

Personally, I want the devs to be able to stretch their technical prowess for the significantly more potent Switch 2, without having to feel held back by the arcane tech of the original Switch. It's not always about scaling game's visuals, but VRAM/Bandwidth, Storage speed can all do wonders for game scope, so exclusives for Switch 2 will truly allow them to flex their minds to this new-found muscle. The Switch 2 has been anticipated for years, so many of us have been saving the pennies for this next console and hope it's fully utilized and not held back too much by it's 2017 (2014/15 tech) predecessor. Fantastic that it's got (Probably) nigh-on full Back-compat too👍

This is the most PL:ZA news we’ve gotten since Pokémon day 2024

I don't think we're going to get a 2DS XL for the Switch because we already have the Switch Light. It makes the most sence for Nintendo to discount the OLED and normal Switchs and then just use the light as their cheaper options.

If i were Nintendo, I would keep the Oled & Lite sku's and heavily discount them. I would go as far as $125 for the Lite and $250 for the Oled or don't include the dock and charge $200. I mean, the hardware should be way cheaper for them to manufacture. At the end of the day, they need hardware to sell software, and making these extremely affordable will do just that. Picture this, parents can now buy their kids multiple Lite handhelds, yet they might spend more on 2 games ($60-70ea) than what they paid for the system. If they manage to do that, they will definitely break the 160m units sold.
