SpaceX and NASA are targeting Saturday, May 1 at 8:35 p.m. EDT, or 00:35 UTC on May 2, for Dragon to autonomously undock from the International Space Station (ISS) and splashdown off the coast of Florida on Sunday, May 2 at approximately 2:57 a.m. EDT, 6:57 UTC, completing its first six-month operational mission to the Station.

A series of departure burns will move Dragon away from the orbiting laboratory, followed by the vehicle jettisoning the trunk to reduce weight and mass to help save propellant for the deorbit burn. Once complete, Dragon will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere and deploy its two drogue and four main parachutes in preparation for a soft water landing.

Aboard the spacecraft will be NASA astronauts Mike Hopkins, Victor Glover, Shannon Walker, and JAXA astronaut Soichi Noguchi, who flew to the space station on Dragon six months ago when Falcon 9 launched the spacecraft from historic Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Sunday, November 15, 2020.

Upon splashdown, the Dragon and the astronauts will be quickly recovered and returned to Cape Canaveral and Houston respectively. Once the mission is complete, Dragon will be inspected and refurbished for future human spaceflight missions.

For anyone wondering, the stream has been paused temporarily and will pick up ~15 minutes prior to undocking.

Keith I want to take this opportunity to mention a few things, considering Im connected with someone in the know ant not the fodder of people who have an internet connection and can type on a keyboard, I hope you like reading... Some need to understand though that even though a flight simulator is not flight training I would think that someone who has spent hours on flight sim learning the controls and proceedures of a 737 would be best suited in some real world emergency if the pilot and crew were incapacitated to understand what they were looking at in a cockpit and understand their functions as apposed to someone who hasnt. Similarly someone who has played around with an ATC simulator, of which there should be realistic sims out there, i dont know I never used them, would have a better understanding of what they were looking at on a screen. Simulation is a very powerful tool and the tech we have today is remarcable in that there is more power in recon, information, communications given to citizens today than military of WW2 era. Not saying everyone is experts but we are far more cpable than they were but we dont use it. "Smart phones, stupid people" Another point I want to mention should probably be put on its own post. Elon Musk's Space X and the vision of traveling to and from space by common people. In another 50 yers we will know this stuff second nature like there are millions now who, through simulators know all about aircraft, airports, communications navigation etc where 50 years ago you would need a degree and university and professional training for what many know today through interest and hobby. Elon musk was deeply hurt when some of his heroes rejected the idea of having trips to the moon and mars be a regular common thing and there are a number of reasons for that which Elon Musk has overlooked. Just like you or I wouldnt let anyone direct your flight or fly your plane Elon needs to realise that these things are not ideas for everyone and joy riders wanting to go to mars for a hangout and come back. Aviation has gone that way, the internet has gone that war even cars. It has been commercialised, it has been used as a form of profit and the real uses of it and its capabilities have been watered down and become a toy for anyone to joy ride and waste time on and real practical applications of it and the advancement of those capabilities have been diluted and diminished. The battle for both the Senior Space crews who rejected Elon's ideas and Elon himslef is that no matter what they want or their opposing opinions the creature is born and it is growing and it will become what it wants to become the trick is to shape it as it grows. People wanting to turn it into a profit machine will sell it out with novelty and gimmicks like China is selling so much waste unnecesary products that everyone can do without and people market it and everyone makes some money of a totaly useless line of product, uses resources and energy, consumes food to have energy to go and make these things, drives their car to go and make or buy these things, the shipping is moving around a lot of tonage of packaging which is thrown away because it is the norm, we chnge packaging to lure people to buy, it isnt about this is what you need, this is what you dont end of story. If it was ....Im off topic but it all is about management in moving goods. Same with planes. Some of that traffic doesnt need to be there. so ATC can start on the ground. going back to Elon Musk, what about STC? (Space Traffic Control) This is going to become a department, it will be just like an airport tower. There is Satelits to track but they are in a kinetic trajectory, they dont deviate much. you can track a sat for a few seconds and be able to calculate where it will be in a week. Public Space travel will not be like that. This is part of the reason we do not have flying cars. ALSO the reason we have so much traffic. So much traffic because people used a tool and something which was supposed to be a means of travel to go from point A to point B but now they joyride around and take pleasure cruises and just hang out and show them off and rims and fuzzy dice. it is not practical. This is why I dont get along with many people and personally have wasted a lot of time trying to state these facts to people who dont see the bigger picture. Now consider all thes epeople in flying cars and how that would impact ATC. Now take that to space. Now even space we have littered it. There is Human litter in orbit, on the moon and on mars even. People are not ready to manage current local issues and we want to run from it to Mars? Elon Musk (Hi if you are reading Elon) is a great guy, he is smart and ambitious with a lot of support from a lot of likewise people which is a dream for anyone and I respect and support him or anyone for that matter who has good intentions and ambitions but he needs to look at the space topic from a much more higher level and not to make investors happy or to please crowds of people it literally needs to be considered from perspective even higher than some militaries which are trained by some people which have their own motivations. Absolute priorities and necessities. I looked at the Mars rover with that Helicopter drone and even the people who designed that have overlooked a lot of crucial aspects of the mission and were wasteful. That cover that was dropped which housed the drone is sitting there as rubbish. there could have been sensors, solar panels, little wheels and a teather, other equipment etc. but its dead weight, one purpose then discarded. but this is NASA right. Too many cooks in the kitchen and too much beurocracy and deadlines to get it right. they would have spent more time in offices filing papaerwork related to funding, employee management, resources and logistics, utilities and supply and a fraction of that would have been the rover and getting it there... Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. Imagine pilots had to file their taxes, arrange registration and insurance, calculate staff rosters and wages while flying the plane.. That is NASA. That is Elon Musks Space X although Space X seems to be a stripped down version of NASA and a glorified version of a Hobby Model Rocket Team. No Offence Elon... Tesla is great though! Keep it Simple Stupid! Allow it to be user friendly like PC not a MAC!
