Good morning, Keith! Another fine Video regarding shift lenses - some months ago you encouraged me to buy one, i got my 20 mm Laowa shift in December, your book supported my decision. I tell you what: this was the best gear I got to become that excited after many, many years! Shift lenses FORCE you to work clean and proper and show the smallest mistake, when i.e. you didn't match the best position for the camera.
We have in germany these small towns with half-timber-houses (don't know if this is the correct term in english?) and for these houses the 20 mm Shift is very fine. And you see immediately, when you were too close, too low, too high with the tripod, and you see it ON LOCATION, while photograhing! For me, this is the most valuable difference to the correction in post-processing!
So, I'm very happy, seems I started photography on a new level.
Best wishes
Peter

Hey Keith, thank you for the video :) I'm relatively new in architectural photography and had my first few paid jobs for a big architecture firm and i managed to shoot those without a tilt shift lense by framing wider, stitching images together and perspective correction in post. The only limitations i came across was the relatively low Resolution (23MP) of my Sony A7iii. Now i have a budget of around 3000 Dollars. The question is to either invest in a Sony a7rV with 60MP (theyre cheaper in Japan where I am) or invest in a tilt shift lense. I already have quality GM glass for my sony for all necessary focal length, so investing in a 24mm Canon TS with adapter or smth similar seems a bit rough for me. But i have high standards on myself and want to achieve the best quality possible. Which investment would you prioritize if you would be in my shoes? And is it possible to achieve the same results with a high resolution camera and good post-production as with a tilt shift lense? Thank you in advance, your Videos helped me a ton already 🙏

Thank you for the videos! I started to take photos with camera leveled and do find them much better, after cropping 🙂Question: aside from the resolution loss, are there other downsides of using ultra-wide lens and cropping, compared to TS lens?

In this setting, would it be correct to say that you could have simply moved the camera? (by adjusting the tripod height, etc). I.e - using shift only, all you're doing is cropping a larger image circle. To me, a shift lens is simply an economical way of making use of a large image circle. Ideally, we'd have a larger, higher res sensor, that covered the entire image circle, but that would be extremely expensive.

Hi Keith nice timing for me, I mainly shot motorcycles as I ride myself looking at buying a tilt shift for side shots don't want to spend to much as it may not be what I am looking for.
So I was looking at the older 45mm or 90mm what is your thoughts on the 2 ? also can you use a crop sensor for the job as I use a old 1d thanks Jamie.

Hi Keith
I would really be interested in seeing if there would be any use for using a TS lens in macro photography (perhaps with extension tubes or high quality diopters). Also, are the TS adaptors of any use?

@5:30 I got the book for xmas from the wife.
There’s a lot of practical info and examples in it.
For all out there who want to know the ins and outs of t/s, ask your wife ;-)

I thinking on buying a 15mm Shift lens for woodland or a 2nd hand Nikon 19mm tilt shift lens, what do you recommend for woodland photo?
